'Elizabeth is Missing' Will Kick Off Masterpiece 50th Anniversary Season in January

The 50th anniversary season of Masterpiece will kick off in January of 2021, with the Glenda Jackson drama Elizabeth is Missing, which will see the Academy Award-winning actress return to PBS for the first time since 1971.

The 84-year-old Jackson previously won two Emmy awards for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in Masterpiece Theater drama, Elizabeth R. She recently won the BAFTA award for Leading Actress for her performance in Elizabeth is Missing, which aired in the U.K. in 2019. The role also marks her first television appearance, period, in twenty-five years.

Based on the book of the same name by Emma Healey, the two-part drama tells the story of Maud, who is convinced that something terrible has happened when her best friend, Elizabeth, goes missing and sets out to solve the mystery herself. But with her dementia worsening and the past and present starting to merge, can she figure out what happened before her own mind erases all the clues?
