Everything British Worth Streaming in September 2024
Cable networks getting into the original series game at the end of the 1990s was the first death knell for the standard TV season running from September to June; however, September didn't truly lose its status until streaming became the way of the future. Broadcast networks still tried to debut everything in mid-September, but the crawl to the end of the month was slow but sure. It should be noted that the 2024-2025 TV season is the first where Broadcast has managed to return to normal after the pandemic and strike disruptions; but that being said, there are multiple networks, like the CW and AMC Networks' federation of streaming services, who seem to have shifted to October for fall debuts semi-permanently.
I bring this up because September 2024's streaming list of British series is oddly thin in some of the usual areas. Netflix, for example, had zero British series debuting in September other than the usual return of The Great British Baking Show; AMC+, Acorn TV, Sundance Now, and BBC America likewise are spooling out the final episodes of their July and August debuts with no new British shows arriving until October.
Meanwhile, BritBox is filling the void with multiple critical darlings importing over from the BBC and ITV this month; Apple TV+ has shifted its regular calendar to have a hit show debut in September. Even Paramount+ and Amazon Prime (who regularly sit out in the leaner months) have British debuts to boast about. Let's run down everything British coming to the U.S. and which streaming services they'll debut on for September 2024.
