BritBox Adds 'Gavin & Stacey' & 'Inside No. 9' To Holiday Lineup

It's been a hot minute since we heard from Gavin & Stacey, one of the few British Comedies from the late aughts that actually made inroads in the U.S. when it aired on BBC America. The sitcom was created and written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, who cast themselves in supporting roles that became their big breakout roles, while Mathew Horne and Joanna Page starred as the nominally titular characters. The series started on BBC Three in 2007 before moving to BBC One and lasted three seasons before airing on BBC America, a move that helped Cordon land the hosting job for The Late Late Show in the U.S.

Gavin & Stacey returned over a decade later with a 2019 Christmas special, which followed the trend of revival shows set in the present day, checking in on the characters to see how they were doing after so many years away. The special was a smash hit in the U.K. and streamed on BritBox in the States, though the U.K. "Festive Special" tradition had not yet registered on this side of the pond. Five years on, the series is back for one more installment, and this time, they mean it, calling the 2024 holiday edition Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, just in case anyone thought there might be more.

Like the 2019 episode, BritBox has landed the rights to bring over the final installment, just in time for its Festive Special lineup to launch on December 17. However, that's not the only 'holiday-timed" finale of fan favorites. The British streaming service also nabbed the New Year's Eve-themed Inside No. 9: The Party’s Over, which is less a new episode of the series and more of a behind-the-scenes look at the story behind the story of the cult hit.
