The eleventh and final season of Grantchester has finally announced a release date, and, as always, it's right where we expected it to debut. Since Season 3, Grantchester has been the vibrant heart of PBS's "Summer of Mysteries" lineup, whether or not it's paired with Endeavour or bolstering Patience and Professor T.

It's also a show that's been a favorite here at Telly Visions. One part meditation on faith and one part murder mystery, it's attracted viewers of all sorts, and while some of its seasons have had pacing issues, we've mostly rolled with them. (Will and Bonnie's marriage being suddenly smushed onto the end of Season 7, for example, was memorable for both being an amazing season capper and for coming directly out of left field.)

The show has been through three leading men, each of whom altered its tone so thoroughly that we ended up switching off recappers whenever it happened, simply because the show was speaking with a different voice each time. We've loved all three versions, and are only sorry the series won't be able to go full Death in Paradise, and bring us a couple more.

But there's no use grieving the show before it's over; Grantchester has one more eight-episode season for us to enjoy, whether that's appreciating the latest Hot Priest, Alphy Kotteram, pulling our hair out with Cathy over her husband Goerdie's dinosaur opinions, or crying over the beautiful relationship that's blossomed between Leonard and Mrs. C over the last decade.

Check out the trailer.

Here's the Season 11 official synopsis:

The final season kicks off in the momentous summer of 1963. Alphy reconnects with his estranged mother and questions his faith. Geordie faces a promotion that could end his crime-solving partnership with Alphy, and Cathy’s career soars. As Leonard discovers his paternal side and Miss Scott faces a life-changing event, the Grantchester family must face love, loss, and forgiveness one last time.

Directors Rob Evans and Chloe Thomas split helming duties with Dan Kay producing. The final season will be executive produced by Coulam, Green, and Nair, plus Emma Kingsman-Lloyd for Kudos, and Susanne Simpson and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece.
