Acorn TV Launches Rebrand on the Back of 'Harry Wild' Season 3 Premiere Announcement

Harry Wild was perhaps the least likely series to be a breakout hit for Acorn TV. Starring Jane Seymour, a British actress best known for her role as an American in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, this extremely formulaic cozy mystery did not seem like it was primed for take-off, especially since Acorn TV initially dumped two episodes at a time when it premiered in 2022. However, despite the mishandling, audiences found the series anyway, and Season 2 did far better, justifying AMC Network's choice to film Seasons 2 and 3 as a single set and then announce Season 3 as greenlit after Season 2 concluded, so fans wouldn't have to wait that long for a new installment.

The loose network of niche streamers hasn't been doing all that well; however, its struggles have been confined to the back pages of the trades, overshadowed by larger streamers having it exponentially worse. Still, it's a bit odd to realize how much AMC Networks has riding on this series' slim shoulders as the show's premiere date announcement not only comes with the "surprise" addition of BBC America signing on to broadcast the new season of Harry Wild on its linear network but an entire brand refresh for Acorn TV as well.

The BBC America news is not a surprise; anyone who has turned on the network lost among the zombie cable channels will have noted an absence of British programming. It's been that way for years, of course, and it's about time AMC Networks started putting what British shows it has access to on the network that bears the name BBC, even if it is too little too late. The refresh, however, is a surprise. A rearrangement of the deck chairs on the Titanic, to be sure, but at least a nice rearrangement, and considering Acorn TV continues to be AMC network's best performer outside of its flagship AMC+, it is probably the only one worth giving a refresh.
