Netflix's 'Grown Ups' Wraps Filming
We're checking in on Netflix's forthcoming adaptation of Marian Keyes' novel 'Grown Ups.'
Despite originally being announced by Netflix in early 2024, the adaptation of Marian Keyes’ novel Grown Ups was only just heading into production in September 2025 when word came down that we were being shut down due to funding cuts. Based on Keyes’ saga of the Casey Family, this is the second TV series based on the author’s best-selling novels to be heading to small screens in 2026; the BBC released its adaptation of The Walsh Sisters in February. However, the Walsh Family saga will probably be delayed in crossing the pond – there’s no American distributor on board yet, and the reviews have been pretty abysmal.
Thankfully, Netflix has already confirmed the series will premiere worldwide, so there’s no need to worry about Grown Ups not arriving in the U.S. With a star-studded cast featuring PBS and Netflix favorites, there’s a good chance Netflix might even promote this one. (Especially if it brings the prospect of being able to beat The Walsh Sisters in viewership.)
Ironically, Keyes is better known for her interconnected Walsh family series, which debuted in 1995 with Watermelon and now runs eight novels in total. Grown Ups, which debuted in 2020 as a standalone novel, introduced a new clan, the Casey brothers, Johnny, Liam, and Ed, and their three wives: Jessie, married to Johnny; Nell, married to Liam; and Cara, married to Ed. But while the Walshes may be better known to Keyes’ fans, it’s the Caseys who are poised to go global.
Here’s the series’ synopsis:
Set in south county Dublin, Grown Ups follows the chaotic lives of the Casey clan, a noisy, tight-knit Irish family, who are bound together by a tangled web of loyalty, resentment, money, memory, and love. When the rock of the family, the “good son,” dies unexpectedly, it sets off a seismic emotional reckoning. Over the course of the next year, the Caseys will fall in and out of love, confront old wounds and make some new ones. They’ll be forced to face not only their grief, but the exhausting, relentless, and often ridiculous struggle of being an adult. Despite their age and responsibilities, the Caseys are far from grown up.
The main ensemble of Grown Ups features Barry Ward (Passenger) as Johnny Casey, Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy) as Liam Casey, and Karin Hanczewski (Tatort) as a gender-flipped Ed Casey. Sarah Greene (Bad Sisters) as Johnny’s wife, Jessie; Amy-Leigh Hickman (Ackley Bridge) as Liam’s wife, Nell; and Aisling Bea (Alice & Jack) as Ed’s wife, Cara. Adrian Dunbar (Ridley) and Sinéad Cusack (Napoleon) also star as Canice and Rose Casey, the parents of Johnny, Liam, and Ed.
The series supporting cast includes Katelyn Rose Downey (Clean Sweep), Jessica De Gouw (The Couple Next Door), David O’Reilly (MobLand), Eugene O’Hare (Outlander), Loré Adewusi (Harry Wild), Ciara Bailey (Kin), Kiri Flaherty (The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin), and newcomer James Agnew.

The series was created by Samantha Strauss (The Last Anniversary), who is set to pen all eight episodes. Directors Ciaran Donnelly (The Wheel of Time) and James Griffiths (The Ballad of Wallis Island) will split helming duties with Liz Gill as the series producer. Strauss, Griffiths, and Keyes executive produce alongside Helen Gregory, Andy Noble, Shay Spencer, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman & Liz Watts; plus Manda Levin, Henrietta Lee & Mona Qureshi for Netflix.
Grown Ups is expected to arrive on Netflix before the end of 2026.
