The 'Orphan Black: Echoes' Trailer Reveals A New Conspiracy
Orphan Black: Echoes, the highly anticipated spin-off of BBC America's accidental hit Orphan Black, has finally released the official trailer after months and months of speculation. However, despite what should be an obvious premise — that star Krysten Ritter is the new clone, all this has happened before, and all this will happen again, etc (to borrow a phrase from another beloved sci-fi show) — the trailer doesn't really answer any questions or really set up much for fans to go on, other than, of course that a conspiracy is afoot and it will go all the way to the top, come all the way back down to the bottom, and probably reach the sides at a push.
Screenwriter Graeme Manson originally created the initial Orphan Black series, which debuted on BBC America in 2013. A Canadian production, it was a bit of a stretch for the network, which was trying its best to stick to British shows in its original programming. The show wasn't marketed much at the time, with the assumption audiences would prefer Ripper Street, which debuted around the same time and starred Jerome Flynn, then at the peak of his American fame due to Game of Thrones. However, Ripper Street flopped, and audiences began turning to Orphan Black just as it reached its third episode, and the word clone was first introduced.
Of course, Echoes won't be so lucky; it will have to introduce its clones from the start, and neither BBC America nor AMC will have time to let the show find its way and the audience find their way if the series doesn't take off right away. But luckily, Clone Club is ready and waiting. Send in the Clones.
