'Professor T' Season 3 to Arrive on PBS in June
Fans of Professor T have a splendid surprise awaiting them for the start of the summer, as PBS revealed that the popular Ben Miller-starring English language remake will return much earlier than initially anticipated. Instead of having to wait until late summer, or worse, the fall mystery season, PBS will kick off its June-timed "Summer of mysteries" with the good professor in the 8 p.m. ET berth, helping to fill an evening that was once the domain of the late, beloved Endeavour. It's a significant upgrade for the Eagle Eye Drama series and proves the show's popularity is increasing every season.
Until now, Professor T has been a show PBS usually relegated to the second half of the year. The series began as an almost beat-for-beat remake of the popular Belgian series of the same name that streams on PBS Passport as part of the Walter Presents anthology series. It initially debuted its first season in late July. Though it was not the first remake commissioned by Walter Presents' sister company, Eagle Eye Drama, of one of the popular foreign language shows from the PBS Passport collection, it was the one PBS led off with, as it had already been remade successfully in France and Germany.
Still, the late summer berth suggested PBS was nervous about its ability to attract audiences. Season 2 was positioned in a stronger spot, given the lead-in slot ahead of Unforgotten's highly anticipated return with new lead Sinead Kenan, but still in the early fall of September, not the main fall premiere space of October/November. With this promotion to June/July, where the super popular shows like Grantchester usually hang out, Professor T is officially part of PBS' elite detectives club.
