AMC+ Takes Possession of 'This City Is Ours'
'This City Is Ours' finally has a streaming home in the U.S., and it's debuting almost immediately.
It's been just over two years since the BBC commissioned This City Is Ours in February 2024, billed at the time as "a Liverpool-set gangland romance from The Crown producer Left Bank." It was also one of the first out of the gate, production-wise, from the dozen titles announced that day, with the announcement that Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) had signed on to the lead role coming only a month or so later. By the spring of 2025, the series had already been completed and was airing in the U.K., turning into one of the BBC's biggest hits of the year, followed soon after by the confirmation of Season 2.
However, the series' success didn't seem to impress American streaming services, despite the success of shows like Peaky Blinders and MobLand. As we rolled into 2026, Season 2 production was underway, with major additions like Shaun Evans (Endeavour) signing on for the new season, and no American distributor in sight.
Thankfully, that has finally been rectified, with AMC Networks finally scooping up the series as part of a multi-title deal ahead of the 2026 London Screenings. However, despite the obvious move to consolidate all British shows from Sundance Now onto Acorn TV, This City Is Ours won't debut there, at least not at first. Instead, it will premiere on AMC+... on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
(Yes, that's this Thursday.)
Here's the series synopsis:
This City is Ours is the story of Michael and Diana's love affair, set against the disintegration of Michael's crime gang. For years, together with Ronnie, Michael has successfully been bringing cocaine into the City and beyond, directly from Colombia; but when a shipment goes missing, he knows their Kingdom is under attack.
The series explores what happens when Ronnie's son Jamie decides he wants to inherit their kingdom, and that there is no longer a place for Michael at the table. Both Michael and Jamie have bold ideas to modernise the gang, and they will battle for control of it. But Michael's biggest battle will be to save the woman he loves and the child he has always wanted.

Sean Bean (Shardlake) stars as Ronnie, the head of the Phalen family, with James Nelson Joyce (A Thousand Blows) co-starring as his right-hand man, Michael. Julie Graham (Time) features as Ronnie's wife, Elaine; Jack McMullen (Hijack) as his son, Jamie; and Hannah Onslow (This Is Going to Hurt) as Michael's new love, Diana.
The A-list cast for Season 1 also includes Laura Aikman (Archie), Kevin Harvey (Treason), Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls), Stephen Walters (Slow Horses), Bobby Schofield (Rogue Heroes), Darci Shaw (The Irregulars), and Mike Noble (The Long Shadow). Season 2 will add Evans to the cast, along with Álvaro Morte (Money Heist).

Stephen Butchard (The Last Kingdom) is the lead writer on the eight-episode series with Robbie O'Neill. Director Saul Dibb (The Sixth Commandment) helms all episodes with Simon Maloney producing. Butchard and Dibb executive produce with Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson, and Sian McWilliams for Left Bank Pictures and Jo McClellan for the BBC.
This City Is Ours Season 1 will air on AMC and stream on AMC+ starting Thursday, March 5, 2026, and continue with weekly installments through the end of April. Season 2 is in production in the U.K. and is expected to air on the BBC before the end of the year.
