In 'The Miniature Wife' Trailer, Love Comes in All Sizes
Yes, this romantic comedy-drama is basically Honey, I Shrunk My Spouse
While marriage problems are a dime a dozen in television series of all stripes, Sky and Peacock's forthcoming romantic comedy-drama The Miniature Wife is almost certainly groundbreaking in the way it chooses to both depict and deal with them. Though its title hints could hint at all manner of relationship issues — a spouse who feels forced to diminish themselves to make their partner feel better, perhaps — the series is almost painfully literal.
Based on a short story by Manuel Gonzales, the series follows Les and Lindy, a couple trying to keep their marriage together as they each navigate the pressures of their careers — she's a successful author, he's an ambitious but struggling scientist. Things take a surprising turn when Les accidentally shrinks his wife to 6 inches tall using a new experimental invention. The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids vibes are clearly on purpose.
The premise is objectively ridiculous, but if the trailer is anything to go by, the series' overall feel is surprisingly sweet and romantic. You have to ignore some of the dodgy CGI required to put a normal-sized Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and a tiny version of Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect) onscreen together, and a few of the jokes — Les literally blowing Lindy over with the strength of his voice — are painfully clumsy. But there's a genuine earnestness here that hints this show might have hidden depths.
Here's the series' synopsis.
The Miniature Wife is a dramedy examining the power (im)balances between spouses Lindy and Les after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.
The series stars Macfadyen and Banks as the show's central couple, alongside an ensemble cast that includes a mix of British, Canadians, and Americans, including Sian Clifford (Everyone Else Burns), O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid's Tale), Zoe Lister-Jones (DMV), Sofia Rosinsky (Paper Girls), Ronny Chieng (The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins), Aasif Mandvi (Evil), Rong Fu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), and Tricia Black (Wayward).
Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner (Boardwalk Empire) serve as the series' creators and showrunners, with Greg Mottola (Superbad) helming four of its ten episodes. Ames, Turner, and Mottola also executive produce, alongside Banks, Macfadyen, Michael Aguilar (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), and Suzanne Heathcote (Killing Eve). Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer also executive produce for Media Res (The Morning Show).
All episodes of The Miniature Wife premiere Thursday, April 9, 2026, on Peacock.
