The best Robin Hood adaptation you've probably never heard of just landed a second season. MGM+'s take on the classic legend of the outlaw premiered late last year to relatively little fanfare — which is deeply unfortunate because it's great — but with the promise of a Season 2 on the horizon, perhaps it will finally find the audience it so richly deserves.

Much like the King Arthur myth, it has proven surprisingly difficult for our pop culture to make a really good version of the Robin Hood story, but the MGM+ series succeeds by making its retelling about much more than one simple man. By grounding its well-known tale in a broader historical context and giving greater agency to both its female and supporting characters, it's a take that incorporates everything from romance to political intrigue alongside its "rob from the rich and give to the poor" ethos.

"Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the U.S. and abroad has been exceptional," Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, said. "We're thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can't wait to see where they take us next."

The series' second season will once again comprise 10 episodes and aims to continue expanding its world, taking its characters beyond Sherwood Forest and into the courts of England, France, and Rome.

Here's the Season 2 description.

Season two of Robin Hood expands the world beyond Sherwood and Nottingham into the treacherous courts of England, France, and Rome, transforming the outlaw rebellion into a high stakes battle for the soul of a kingdom. As the Angevin empire threatens to tear itself apart, Rob and Marian are drawn into the orbit of kings and queens, forced to wield the very instruments of Norman power – politics, gold, and betrayal – to secure a future for the Saxons. What begins as a fight for survival becomes a reckoning with power itself. Sweeping in scope yet intimate in emotion, Season two deepens the romance, sharpens the rivalries, and reimagines the legend as a prestige drama about love, legacy, and the price of becoming history.

Season 1 starred Jack Patten (War Machine) as Rob, Lauren McQueen (Belgravia: The Next Chapter) as Marian, Sean Bean (This City is Ours) as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Lydia Peckham (Nuremberg) as Priscilla of Nottingham, Steven Waddington (The Long Shadow) as the Earl of Huntingdon, and Connie Nielsen (Gladiator II) as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. All are presumed to be returning for the new season, with additional cast members announced in due course.

John Glenn returns as showrunner and executive producer, along with executive producer and director Jonathan English and executive producer Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures. Carly Kleinbart and Nicole Bryant oversee the series for Hidden Pictures.

Robin Hood Season 2 will begin production at PFI Studios in Serbia this summer.
