The First Look at Acorn TV's 'You're Killing Me' Sees Brooke Shields Solving Crime
Acorn TV's latest cozy mystery is taking us to New England instead of the U.K.
Acorn TV is known for its cozy crime dramas, charming offbeat affairs that follow an assortment of quirky characters who find themselves embroiled in murder investigations. From English professors (Harry Wild) and village vicars (Murder Before Evensong) to prestige art enthusiasts (Art Detectives) and divorce attorneys (Irish Blood). But, for its latest trick, the streamer is thinking a bit outside the box.
Not entirely, of course. Its latest offering, You're Killing Me, still ticks all the major boxes of what we expect these shows to be and do. Just this time...it's set in America. Yes, this is genuinely a first. The aforementioned Irish Blood also features an American lead (Clueless star Alicia Silverstone), but while its lead character hails from Los Angeles, the show decamps for the picturesque vistas of Ireland within its first fifteen minutes.
You're Killing Me moves its quintessential British-style mystery to a seaside town in New England, which means most of the vibes are the same, even if the accents are different. The series follows the story of Allie (Brooke Shields), a popular mystery author who teams up with a podcaster and aspiring writer (Amalia Williamson) to investigate the mysterious death of a friend. Former The Flash actor Tom Cavanagh plays Jack, the new lead detective on the local police department, who is himself trying to adjust to the oddities of life in a small town.
Here's the series' synopsis.
Set in a quaint New England town, the mystery follows bestselling novelist, Allie, who forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and podcaster Andi, to find the killer of a close friend. Cavanagh stars as Jack, the new lead detective of the local Police Department and former city slicker who is trying to acclimate to the quirks of small-town life.

The six-part series is created by Robin Bernheim Burger (Mother of the Bride), with James Genn (The Good Doctor), Scott Smith (The Magicians), and Paul Fox (Schitt's Creek) each directing a pair of episodes. Bernheim, Shields, and Genn are all executive producers, alongside Michael Volpe for Topsail and Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie for Shaftesbury.
You're Killing Me doesn't have an official premiere date just yet, but the series is slated to premiere this Spring.
