‘Tommy & Tuppence’ Episode 3 Settles In for the Long Haul
Sometimes, the theater can be murder.
After two episodes that essentially served as setup, the third installment of Agatha Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence feels more like the week-to-week show we can expect. Featuring much less direct exposition, the hour relies on the lived-in chemistry between our titular pair (Josh Dylan (The Buccaneers) and Antonia Thomas (Still Up) to ground their relationship; their long history together is conveyed through their mutual ease with one another and the occasional use of shared memories in the context of the cases they’re investigating.
The pair is now living as well as working together, a shift that has seemingly brought them closer and introduced all the minor joys and irritants that come hand-in-hand with living with someone. Tuppence, unsurprisingly, appears to be the messy, disorganized roommate, and Tommy is terribly uptight about it. But at least they get to share Chinese takeaway.
The episode begins as they scramble to get their detective agency off the ground, starting with taking on jobs as mundane as a missing pooch in the neighborhood. The problem is, their chemistry is getting harder to ignore; heck, even Alfred (Charlie Condou) is basically shipping it.
Thankfully, a new mystery arrives just in time for them to ignore the elephant in the room (or at least stick it in a corner) for now.
