‘Death Valley’ Season 2 Will Kill Again for the Holidays
The BBC’s answer to Only Murders in the Building, Death Valley, has finally secured a release date in the U.S. for Season 2.
The BBC’s answer to Only Murders in the Building, Death Valley, has finally secured a release date in the U.S. for Season 2. The series – another comedic cozy crime in the vein of Ludwig – is set to follow Season 2 of the David Mitchell series on BritBox in November.
Like Ludwig, the series was a surprise hit when it debuted in 2025. Starring British acting legend Timothy Spall as British acting legend John Chapel, the series takes the same conceit as Only Murders – an actor once famous for playing a detective on TV winds up solving crimes in retirement – and gives it a distinctively Welsh spin.
(My personal favorite is that the character he played was named Caesar, a royal upgrade from Steve Martin’s Brazzos.)
Season 2 debuted in May 2026 in the U.K. on BBC Cymru and BBC One, so we’ve been chomping at the bit a little, waiting for a BritBox release date to be announced. We should note, however, that the show’s popularity almost certainly means the November weekly release date will eventually be joined by a BritBox Premier early release, and we will keep everyone updated as soon as it is announced.
Here’s BritBox’s version of the Season 2 synopsis:
The odd couple of Welsh policing return – and they’ve risen up the ranks. But is that what they really want? Their unprecedented clear-up rate in solving murders has brought Janie Mallowan her much-coveted promotion to Detective Inspector. And she now has official help from John Chapel as Mid Wales Police’s new civilian consultant. But Janie’s growing discontent with her new role is clear.
Health and safety briefings, police strategy meetings and the arrival of her estranged father – the charming and unreliable Michael – force Janine to question her life choices. Meanwhile, a murder on the set of an epic Game of Thrones-style production reignites John’s passion for acting. Could he make a return? And the pair’s personal relationship remains fragile following John’s relationship with Yvonne – Janie’s mum.

Timothy Spall (The Sixth Commandment) and Gwyneth Keyworth (Lost Boys & Fairies) return as actor John Chapel and DS Janie Mallowan, alongside returning cast Rithvik Andugula (Extraordinary) as co-worker DC Evan Chaudhry, Melanie Walters (Father Brown) as Janie’s mother, Yvonne; Steffan Rhodri (Gavin & Stacey) as Janie’s boss, DCI Clarke; and Alexandria Riley (Lost Boys & Fairies) as her BBF, Dr. Helen Baxter.
Guest stars for the new season include Jane Horrocks (COBRA), Hammed Animashaun (Black Ops), Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve), Roisin Conaty (After Life), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander), Jim Howick (Ghosts), Owen Teale (Line of Duty), Asim Chaudhry (The Cleaner), Lynn Hunter (The End of the F***ing World), Rhiannon Clements (Patience), Liz Carr (Silent Witness), and Mike Bubbins (Mammoth).

Series creator Paul Doolan (Bloods) returns to pen all six episodes of Season 2 alongside Sian Harries, Ian Jarvis, and Nina Metivier. Directors Simon Hynd and Claire Winyard split helming duties, with Nikki Wilson producing. Spall and Doolan executive produce alongside Josh Cole and Madeline Addy.
Death Valley Season 2 arrives on BritBox on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, and airs weekly through mid-December.
Season 1 is currently available to stream on BritBox. Season 3 is not yet greenlit.
