Apple TV Sweeps Up ‘Dustfall’ for 2027
Apple TV blows in to pick up Australia's 'Dustfall' for 2027.
Apple TV seems to be going on a buying spree, picking up several British and Australian series to debut in the States in the last few months. First, it scooped up Last Seen for September 2026; the series finale just streamed on Apple in early October. Then it nabbed Small Prophets, the oddball, partly-animated British series that’s been one of the BBC’s big hits of 2026. Now it’s sweeping up Dustfall, which is already set to air on Australia’s ABC and the BBC.
ABC first announced the series was going into production in November 2025; the BBC picked it up as a co-producer within days. Based on Vikki Petraitis’ The Unbelieved, the first novel in her Deception Bay crime series, the adaptation stars Australian actor Anna Torv (best known in the States for Fringe) as the novel’s protagonist, Detective Tig Pollard. The series kicks off as Pollard returns to her hometown of North Gap after years in the city, uncovering a string of drink-spiking assaults. However, the case is turned on its head when one of the main suspects is murdered.
Petraitis’ second novel in the series, The Stolen, arrives later in October 2026, so if the show is a big enough hit down under, a Season 2 will almost certainly be greenlit. With high-profile distribution in both the U.K. and the U.S., those chances have improved even further.
Here’s the Apple version of the synopsis:
Dustfall is a propulsive, atmospheric Tropic Noir that follows a seasoned detective, Antigone “Tig” Pollard, whose deep sense of justice is challenged by a world where victims are doubted, predators hide in plain sight and the legal system too often falls short. Tig is called in to investigate a harrowing sexual assault case that spirals darker after a key suspect turns up dead. As Tig hunts for the truth, she’s forced to confront long-buried secrets from her own adolescence.

Torv (The Last of Us) is joined by a sprawling cast that also includes Bert Labonté (Colin From Accounts), Juliet Stevenson (Professor T), Kate Box (Deadloch), Zoe Phillips (East of Eden), Ling Cooper Tang (Nautilus), Alice Ansara (Black Snow), Martin Sacks (Darby & Joan), Jay Ryan (Scrublands), Ed Wightman (White Lies), Lila McGuire (The Twelve), Peter Fenton (Love is a Four Letter Word), Gemma Chua-Tran (Heartbreak High), Conrad Coleby (A Place to Call Home), and Luke J Morgan (NCIS: Sydney).

Dianne Taylor adapted the series, with writers Stuart Page, Belinda Chayko, and Beatrix Christian also penning episodes. Director Emma Freeman (The Family Next Door) helmed all installments and executive produced alongside Torv; Deb Balderstone for Soapbox Pictures; Xavier Marchand & Daisy Gilbert for Moonriver; and Brett Sleigh & Rachel Okine for ABC.
Dustfall will premiere on ABC in Australia on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and air weekly through November. The series is expected to follow on the BBC before the end of 2026 and on Apple TV in 2027.
