It’s been almost a year since I, Jack Wright, the mystery series from Unforgotten Chris Lang, debuted on BritBox. It was the first time Lang managed to get close to replicating the success of his PBS Masterpiece hit; his last attempt, “Unforgotten but Set It In the Courtroom,” Innocent, barely scraped out two seasons. It helped that this time, Lang landed an all-star cast of suspects, headed up by Trevor Eve as the titular Jack Wright and Gemma Jones as his long-divorced first wife, Rose, both of whom had starred in the first season of Unforgotten in 2015.

Those familiar with Lang’s style were hooked pretty quickly, despite the case having three times as many suspects as PBS viewers are used to. (Unforgotten always has four suspects a season; I, Jack Wright began with a full dozen.) However, the biggest surprise wasn’t the reveal of the guilty party as much as the lack of one, suggesting that an I, Jack Wright Season 2 was already on the table.

It took until the beginning of March 2026, but the BBC has confirmed that Season 2 is moving forward and the series will officially air on BBC One and stream on iPlayer in the U.K., and premiere on BritBox in the U.S., as filming gets underway across the pond.

Here’s the preliminary Season 2 synopsis:

The Wrights are back – and deadlier than ever. Still reeling from the death of patriarch Jack, the family is blindsided by the arrest of one of their own for his murder. But have the police got the right person? More importantly, how could this affect their inheritance payouts?
Add in one new family member, two new wills, and three new bodies, and prepare for an explosive return to the twisted world of the Wright family.

Thus far, only the core cast from Season 1 have been confirmed to return for the new season: Nikki Amuka-Bird (Luther) as Jack’s third wife, Sally Wright; John Simm (Doctor Who) and Daniel Rigby (Landscapers) as Gray and John Wright, Jack’s two sons from his first marriage; and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Becoming Elizabeth) as Gray’s daughter, Emily Wright. Harry Lloyd (The Lost King) returns as the man assigned to the case, DCI Morgan. What that means for the rest of the family – especially first wife, Rose – remains to be seen.

Season 2 will also introduce two new faces, Tom Austen (Grantchester) and Zora Bishop (Hijack). Neither have had their characters revealed, but those who watched Season 1 know that Jack’s daughter from his second marriage, Asha Bell, to whom Jack left £2 million, never turned up. (Jack’s second wife died before the events of the story.)

Lang once again penned all episodes, with director Jon East (Trigger Point) helming all six installments and Kingsley Hoskins producing. Lang executive produces with Nickie Sault and Polly Williams for Federation Stories.

I, Jack Wright is currently filming in the U.K. Season 2 is expected to premiere on the BBC and BritBox in late 2026 or early 2027.
