Netflix’s ‘Ink’ to Get Theatrical Run Ahead of Streaming Debut
'Ink' will get to dry for six full weeks in theaters before debuting on Netflix.
Netflix has set a theatrical release date for Ink, its buzzy awards season contender from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire). Following its world premiere as the opening film at this year’s Venice International Film Festival, it will debut in theaters in November 2026, with an astonishingly long six-week run before moving to streaming early in the new year.
(Netflix and Apple typically do six days, not six weeks.)
Ink dramatizes the origin story of London’s infamous The Sun newspaper, when Rupert Murdoch hired rogue editor Larry Lamb to transform what was a struggling broadsheet into a populist tabloid and, unbeknownst to all of them, change the face of media in the process.
As the paper’s circulation skyrockets, the team behind it begins to cross ethical lines in the pursuit of scandalous stories and increased circulation. Their actions ultimately help usher in the era of aggressively partisan and sensationalist media we’re all still stuck living under today.
Guy Pearce (A Spy Among Friends) plays Murdoch, alongside Jack O’Connell (Rogue Heroes) as Lamb. Claire Foy (The Crown) rounds out the main trio as Jules Davies, an ambitious editor who joins the Sun and works closely with Lamb.

The film is an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news — one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.
Based on his Tony- and Olivier-Award-winning original play of the same name, Ink is written by James Graham (Sherwood). The original stage version premiered in 2017 at London’s Almeida Theatre before transferring to the West End and Broadway, where Bertie Carvel (Dalgliesh) won the 2017 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his turn as Murdoch.
Boyle also produces, alongside Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg. Executive producers include Graham, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Tonia Davis, Zoë Edwards, and Sudie Smyth.
Ink will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival at the end of August and screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It will arrive in select theaters on Friday, December 11, 2026, before debuting on Netflix on Friday, January 8, 2027.
