Ask anyone who works at Paramount or Skydance how the merger is going — it was initially supposed to close by the end of June 2025 — and they'll tell you everything is fine, on track, and nothing to worry about. (We're all fine here; how are you?) Ask anyone else in the business, and they'll gently tell you that, with less than two weeks to go, there's no way the merger will close by the end of June. More importantly, if the administration does not let it proceed by October, all parties will almost certainly walk away, which most industry watchers assume will spell the end for the storied production studio.

That reality makes anything greenlit by Paramount for 2026 suspect, including its newly announced series, The Revenge Club.

Paramount knows it is operating on borrowed time, and that may have prompted the company to cast the series and announce its working partners as soon as possible. The Revenge Club (which we should note is currently a working title, not the official one) is adapted from the upcoming novel The Othello Club by J.D. Pennington. Don't worry if you've never heard of him; up until this year, he was an ad exec who wrote copy for network campaigns. The Othello Club, which does not arrive on shelves until November 2025, is his debut novel.
