Poor ITV series Secret Service, which would have been a major hit in a different decade, has finally landed a premiere date here in the States. However, the series is heading to MGM+, so its arrival before the end of 2026 is mitigated by the fact that it will stream on a service no one subscribes to.

After half a decade of massive mega-mergers across the U.S. entertainment landscape, fans are well acquainted with the terrible experience of a network canceling nearly every show currently in production because the new ownership isn’t interested in them. Warner Bros. Discovery is probably the best-known company to do this, flushing away fully completed films for tax purposes; however, Paramount did the same with all its Star Trek series before Skydance took control.

Because the U.K. is about five years behind in the streaming revolution cycle, its first mega-merger is only just underway, with ITV being absorbed into a growing Comcastrophe that already swallowed Sky TV. That also means many beloved British shows will, for the first time, find themselves heading through the slice-and-dice that accompanies these corporate mergers. Professor T, for example, has not yet had a Season 6 commissioned and may never get one.

It’s also affected new series like Secret Service, which a major streamer would most likely have scooped up and easily run for five seasons, had ITV been fully functioning. Sadly, the series remains uncommissioned for Season 2, and will probably die a slow, ratings-free death in an unused corner of Amazon.

Here’s the series synopsis:

Suspenseful, timely, and cinematic, Secret Service follows senior MI6 officer Kate Henderson as a covert investigation uncovers evidence that a high-ranking UK politician may be working as a Russian asset. With trust shattered and her career on the line, Kate must navigate the shifting sands of political loyalty, international threat, and personal sacrifice.
