It’s Paul Hollywood’s No Good, Very Bad “Bread Week”
'The Great British Baking Show' is back in the bread business.
After a detour through the creative minds of Viewers Like You, The Great British Baking Show is back in the bread business. After nearly two decades on the air, and many seasons of Paul Hollywood running rampant like the proverbial 600-pound gorilla who sits wherever he damn well wants, the contestants know what this means: it’s the season’s most terrifying set of challenges: Dread Week with The Breadfather.
After making him wait an extra week, Paul is definitely ready to declare everyone in the tent not good enough at the staple food that defined our agricultural ancestors. New judge Nigella Lawson will have her work cut out for her this week trying to bring the man who wants everyone to spank that dough and call him daddy to heel.
Speaking of Nigella, we viewers aren’t the only ones who appreciate how well she’s pulled Paul back in line in just the season’s first three installments. Mary Berry, Paul’s original fellow judge, has declared herself very pleased with the change. That this season is officially Mary-Approved is worth noting; she never spoke publicly about Prue Leith as her replacement. (However, apparently behind the scenes, she was rather savage.) While I think everyone feels a little bad for Prue, Nigella makes yanking Paul’s leash look easy, and her weekly chirps at his oversized ego are a thing of beauty. I’m glad we all approve.
