‘Marlow Murder’s CCTV Sheds Light on “Murder in the Dark”
“It was only ever about you.”
Last week’s The Marlow Murder Club introduced viewers to the The Traitors-like parlor game, “Murder in the Dark,” which was all fun and games until the “murdered” player, Freddie, was found stabbed in the back and very much no longer alive. Unfortunately for our trio, the players were Becks’ friends from university; she was part of the game and actually the designated murderer during the round where Freddie was killed. Not only does that make her a suspect (and therefore unable to assist in the investigation), but the other suspects are all her university besties – Una, Jessica, Oskar, and Ryan.
Not that this stops Judith when she realizes the house the group rented for the weekend has an entire set of hidden passages. Since Suzie is off with DS Brendan, tracking down who Freddie was having an affair with, she insists Becks help her find the entrance to the house’s hidden spaces. They find an entire surveillance setup in the attic, run by the house’s owner, Hector Bly.
Brendan and Suzie arrive just after Tanika, who Judith called about the discovery. Bly insists he’s done nothing illegal; the cameras aren’t set in the bedrooms or anything perverted; it’s just how he keeps an eye on his most valuable antiques. None of the ladies are impressed, especially since he claimed he was in the Highlands while the group was renting. Tanika demands all the footage from the cameras and drags Bly down to the station, as he is now officially an extra suspect, despite his insistence that there have been far worse groups who have stayed over that he would have killed first. (This is not the winning argument he thinks it is, but never mind.)
