'Twenty Twenty Six' Lands Rare Double Stream on BritBox & Tubi

The BBC will maximize 'Twenty Twenty Six's reach in a deal that sees the World Cup satire stream simultaneously on BritBox and Tubi.

It is a truth universally acknowledged in the world of TV that viewership is a zero-sum game. Human beings can only watch one show at a time: If you’re watching Netflix, you’re not watching HBO; if you’re watching HBO, you’re not watching regular cable; if you’re watching cable, you’re not watching broadcast, and if you’re watching YouTube.... well. That tends to make streaming services rather possessive of their programs. If a show is exclusively on Peacock, that means you must subscribe to watch it there.

(Funny that these networks never consider that if a specific brand of viewers don’t subscribe to their service, it means they wasted money on a show that’s going to go unwatched.)

That makes BritBox’s approach to programming all the more remarkable. Perhaps it’s due to being owned by the BBC, which did not claw back the rights to all its shows to build an American iPlayer when BritBox launched. Perhaps it’s the public broadcasting mentality that some shows should be available to everyone. Either way, it is the rare streaming service willing to make deals where a show premieres both on BritBox and another platform. Previous examples include The Jetty (which binge dropped on BritBox and Hulu), Return to Paradise (which airs on Ovation before streaming on BritBox), and now the newest installment of John Morton’s satirical take on global television events, Twenty Twenty Six, which will debut simultaneously on BritBox and free service Tubi.

In terms of reach, this is almost certainly the best configuration imaginable. BritBox, of course, is the current streaming home for previous installments, Twenty Twelve and W1A; it is the correct fit for the audience. Tubi, on the other hand, is the streaming home of the 2026 World Cup and one of the most popular FAST (Free Ad-Supported Television) apps in the U.S. For people who don’t know the show exists, it’s the perfect spot for “discoverability.”

For those unfamiliar, these series follow Ian Fletcher (Hugh Bonneville), a man whose abilities to fail upward are only eclipsed by his utter uselessness. First introduced as Head of Deliverance for the 2012 London Olympics, Fletcher was then promoted to the BBC’s Head of Values, a role he held on W1A until 2024. For the 2026 World Cup, he’s been transferred to work directly for FIFA as Director of Integrity. As always, he’ll be accompanied by his loathsome personal assistant, Will Humphries (Hugh Skinner), and his Narrator (David Tennant), who continues the BBC’s anthropological study of the useless white man in his natural habitat: Windowless Air-Conditioned Buildings.

As part of the press release announcing his new position, Fletcher remarked: “I’m thrilled at the prospect of joining the Oversight Team in Miami for this unique event. And in terms of the Integrity role, to borrow a soccer analogy, this is a rare opportunity to set out your own goals and then score them on the global stage.”

Here’s the synopsis:

Having previously held a leadership role on the London Games in Twenty Twelve and a spell as the Head of Values at the BBC in W1A, Ian Fletcher is now bound for the greatest stage in world football.
The tournament will be the biggest ever. Hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, with 48 countries taking part and 16 venues thousands of miles apart across the whole of North America, what could possibly go wrong? Ian Fletcher is about to find out, as he joins the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami.

Hugh Bonneville, and Chelsey Crisp in 'Twenty Twenty Six' (BBC/Expectation Entertainment/Jack Barnes)

Since the show is set in the U.S., the cast also includes American actors Chelsey Crisp (Ten Percent) as Sarah Campbell, VP of Sustainability & Climate Strategy and Stephen Kunken (A Spy Among Friends) as Owen Mitchell, VP of Logistics & Execution; Mexican actor Jimena Larraguivel (Patience) as Gabriela De La Rosa, VP of Optics & Narrative; and Canadian actor Paulo Costanzo (The Night Of) as Nick Castellano, VP of Business & Legal Affairs.

John Morton, the man behind both Twenty Twelve and W1A, returns to write and direct all episodes, with Catherine Gosling Fuller producing. Morton also executive produces with Paul Schlesinger and Nerys Evans.

Twenty Twenty Six will premiere on BritBox and Tubi starting Friday, May 1, 2026.

Even though BritBox usually follows a weekly release schedule, especially when it lands high-profile titles like this one, Tubi tends to binge-drop its British fare. We have reached out to BritBox to confirm the release schedule and will update when we hear back.
