The 'Criminal Record' Season 2 Trailer Has a Little Message
The 'Criminal Record' Season 2 trailer is here, and the new case has a little message for our odd couple detective duo.
Apple TV has finally brought us the trailer for Criminal Record Season 2. The Peter Capaldi-Cush Jumbo-starrer originally debuted in January 2024; it went on to become a sleeper hit that helped kick off the streaming service's foray into offering consistent British programming year-round.
A story about two cops at loggerheads over a reopened cold case, Capaldi played Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, and used his well-known prickly persona to keep viewers guessing how deep Hegarty's involvement in covering up the original case went. Jumbo, meanwhile, played the justice-seeking Detective Sergeant June Lenker, aware that Hegarty's reputation preceded him, even as every clue she found suggested his wrongdoing went deeper than anyone could have suspected.
Naturally, Season 2 will bring the antagonists together for a new case where they will have to depend on each other to solve it. The trailer promises more explosive chemistry between the two leads, as Lenker and Hegarty finally learn what they never managed in the show's first season: to trust each other.
Here's the new season's synopsis:
Criminal Record is a powerful, character-driven drama set in the heart of contemporary London, exploring the impossibility of policing when the truth is up for grabs. In Season 2, when a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, rival police officers June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty are forced into an uneasy alliance. But what starts as a hunt for a murderer escalates into an undercover operation to foil a far-right bomb plot in the heart of London.

Season 2 reunites Capaldi (Doctor Who) as DCI Daniel Hegarty and Jumbo (Vera) as DS June Lenker. Other returnees from the series first season include Shaun Dooley (Grantchester) as DS Kim Cardwell, Stephen Campbell Moore (The Confessions of Frannie Langton) as Leo Hanratty, and Charlie Creed-Miles (Peaky Blinders) as DS Tony Gilfoyle.
Season 2 will bring aboard a roster of new cast members related to the new case, including Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses), Luca Pasqualino (Rivals), Luther Ford (The Crown), Lyndsey Marshal (Domino Day), and Peter Sullivan (Poldark).

Criminal Record was created and written by Paul Rutman (Indian Summers), with Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David directing. Rutman also serves as an executive producer alongside Capaldi, Jumbo, and Elaine Collins. The series is produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios.
Criminal Record Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, followed by new episodes weekly through Wednesday, June 10.
