‘Blue Lights’ Season 4 Trailer Is Always Ready to Go
'Blue Lights' releases the first trailer for Season 4, and it’s about to be another “worst day ever” on the job again.
Much like its Belfast setting, Blue Lights has whiplashed between triumph and tragedy over the three seasons it’s been on the air. The BBC series has more than a whiff of copaganda about it – making the Police Service of Northern Ireland the heroes of a TV series on English television is certainly a choice – but the series clearly loves its characters too much to let them ever truly do anything bad. Furthermore, the writers have always honored the region’s complex nature, which has only become more fraught in the nearly 30 years since the Good Friday Accords.
(I am quite certain the BBC did not mean to release the trailer on the same day PM Andy Burnham declared Irish reunification off the table, but it did, so here we are.)
Season 4 has promised a reckoning for the show’s lead ensemble of officers: Siân Brooke as Grace, Martin McCann as Stevie, Katherine Devlin as Annie, and Nathan Braniff as Tommy. Over the show’s three years on the air, the characters have bounced back and forth between the show’s two opposing impulses, as it works to strike a balance between serious and laugh-out-loud funny. But Season 4 will dive into the corruption that’s been endemic to the PSNI via the trial for the murder of Season 1 character Gerald Cliff, attempting to find justice in a situation where such outcomes are murky at best.
Here’s the Season 4 synopsis:
Three years into their jobs as response officers, Constables Grace Ellis, Tommy Foster, and Annie Conlon are operating at their limit, facing a new threat on the streets that the police can barely control. Meanwhile, the murder trial of Gerry Cliff exposes a dangerous and long-buried secret that leads to chaos both inside the police and across the criminal underworld. As they grapple with big decisions about their future, Grace, Tommy, and Annie must find the courage to face the greatest threat they have ever encountered: the truth.
Brooke, McCann, Devlin, and Braniff are once again joined by Joanne Crawford (Outlander: Blood of My Blood), Andi Osho (The Sandman), Frank Blake (Say Nothing), Dearbháile McKinney (Kneecap), Andrea Irvine (Call The Midwife), and Abigail McGibbon (Ballywalter).

Season 3 additions Cathy Tyson (Dune: Prophecy) and Michael Smiley (Bad Sisters) also return for the new season, as will Richard Dormer (COBRA) and Jonathan Harden (Time), reprising their respective roles as Gerald Cliff and Inspector Jonty for the first time since Season 1. Hannah McClean (Sick Note) will also return as solicitor Jen Robinson after sitting out Season 3.
Series creators Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson once again co-wrote all six episodes, with director Angela Griffin returning to split helming duties with Sam O’Mahoney (The Wise Guy), with Brendan Mullin producing. Lawn and Patterson co-created the series with Stephen Wright; the three executive produce alongside Louise Gallagher and Nick Lambon for the BBC.
Blue Lights Season 4 is expected to debut in the U.K. before the end of 2026 and will follow on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada in late 2026/early 2027. Seasons 1 through 3 are streaming on BritBox.
