Meet the New 'Couple Next Door' for Season 2
It is a truth we don't usually say aloud around these parts, but the reality is that most of the Eagle Eye Drama shows, which are remakes of foreign language hits from sister company Walter Presents in English, aren't very good in their first season. Professor T, Before We Die, Suspect, etc., all fell flat in their first outings because they hewed too closely to the original, sometimes literally lifting entire scenes of dialogue from the original and restaging them somewhere in the U.K. The faster a series starts breaking away and evolving into its own show, the quicker it is to improve. However, it's not clear if that will be the case with The Couple Next Door.
Technically a (very) loose adaptation of the Dutch series New Neighbours (Nieuwe Buren), The Couple Next Door forged its own path from the beginning, taking the character of Eva (Evie) and making her much more complicit, while turning the established couple in the neighborhood and making them less professional swingers and more innocent about how this could all go wrong.
That doesn't bode well for Season 2 improving from our recapper's deep disappointment with Season 1. However, there is some good news. Because the show strayed so quickly from the original show, Season 2 will not continue the adventures of our original couples as the Dutch version did. Instead, it will turn it into an anthology series, where two new couples move into the neighborhood.
