The ‘Secret Service’ Trailer Promises High-Stakes Espionage
MGM+ adds another spy drama to the pile this November.
If spy thrillers seem to be a dime a dozen these days, you can probably blame Apple TV’s Slow Horses, whose runaway success has convinced every streaming service that people really want spies, spies, and more spies. The latest entry to join the ranks of recent shows like The Agency, Legends, PONIES, Betrayal, and probably at least a half dozen others we're forgetting to mention, is Secret Service, coming to MGM+.
(Note for any studio executives that happen to stumble by: It’s not the spies. It’s the regular and consistent release schedule. But that’s a rant for another day.)
The Gemma Arterton series aired on ITV earlier this spring and explores plenty of familiar “spy series themes,” like balancing high-profile work with domestic responsibilities or managing a secret double life most of your friends aren’t aware you’re living.
Adapted from Tom Bradby’s bestselling novel of the same name — the first in his Kate Henderson series — the five-part espionage drama follows a senior MI-6 officer who infiltrates a Russian oligarch’s inner compound, only to uncover a more devastating secret than any of them planned for. A high-ranking U.K. cabinet member may have been recruited as a Russian asset.
Here’s the series synopsis:
Suspenseful, timely, and cinematic, Secret Service follows senior MI6 officer Kate Henderson as a covert investigation uncovers evidence that a high-ranking UK politician may be working as a Russian asset. With trust shattered and her career on the line, Kate must navigate the shifting sands of political loyalty, international threat, and personal sacrifice.
Alongside Arterton (Funny Woman), the series also stars Roger Allam (Endeavour), Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Mark Stanley (Game of Thrones), Amaka Okafor (Bodies), Rafe Spall (Trying), Aoife Hinds (The Long Call), Avi Nash (Black Mirror), Alma Prelec (Fifteen-Love), and Khalid Abdalla (The Crown).
Bradby adapted the script from his own novel, with Jemma Kennedy co-writing. James Marsh serves as lead director, with Farren Blackburn also helming select installments. Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood executive produce for Potboiler Productions.
Secret Service premieres on MGM+ on Sunday, November 22, 2026, and streams one episode a week through the end of December.
