‘The Traitors: New Blood’ Teaser Introduces a Whole New World
The normies are coming to the castle.
The Traitors: New Blood, the long-awaited civilian version of Peacock’s megapopular reality show The Traitors, premieres this September and will put an entirely new spin on the game for U.S. viewers. The basic rules will be the same; there will be Faithfuls and Traitors, accusations and betrayals, banishment and murders. But the vibe will almost certainly be completely different.
(Host Alan Cumming’s outfits, however, will undoubtedly still be the best part of the show.)
For those who don’t know, the American version of The Traitors is one of the few international franchise spinoffs of the series that’s cast entirely with famous people. Your mileage may vary, of course, about whether you think Real Housewives alums and former Big Brother contestants count as celebrities. But every season of the flagship show has featured at least some contestants with previous reality show experience, which means that their approach to the game — and their desire to play to the cameras — is completely different from an average person. (Not to mention half of them know each other already from the reality TV circuit, and come into the game with preexisting relationships.)
New Blood gets back to the franchise’s original roots. It is cast exclusively with normal Americans, hand-selected from a nationwide search resulting in over 60,000 hopeful applicants. They come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including a funeral director, an astrophysicist, a barrel racer, and a pilot. In short: We all really have no idea what to expect.
Here’s the series synopsis (which is really just an explanation of the game, but still).
Set at a castle deep in the Scottish Highlands, this nail-biting psychological adventure sees contestants work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000. Hidden among the Faithful are the Traitors, who murder the Faithful one by one under the cover of darkness as the Faithful race to uncover them from the game.
At the end of the game, if the remaining Faithful banish every Traitor, they share the prize fund; if even one Traitor survives to the end, the Traitors take it all.
The Traitors is produced by Studio Lambert. In addition to his hosting duties, Cumming also serves as an executive producer, alongside Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, and Doran Azouelos.
The Traitors: New Blood will premiere on Thursday, September 17, at 8 p.m. ET, with a two-hour episode. Seasons 1-4 of the flagship series, as well as all seasons of several international editions, including The Traitors U.K. and The Celebrity Traitors, are streaming on Peacock.
