‘This City Is Ours’ Plots Vengeance for Season 2
The Liverpool-set hit 'This City Is Ours' has officially confirmed a U.K. release date for Season 2.
The Liverpool-set hit This City Is Ours has officially confirmed a U.K. release date for Season 2 before the end of October 2026 and debuted a full-length trailer to mark the occasion, set to the series’ trademark old-school big band/swing soundtrack.
Season 1 was a massive hit for the BBC when it debuted in early 2025. To date, the series premiere has attracted 8.3 million viewers since its initial debut, with the series averaging 6.2 million views per episode. It helped that the initial plot setup for This City Is Ours went full Game of Thrones, casting Sean Bean in the starring role, only to kill him off as soon as the plot made it convenient.
While the surviving cast from the show’s first season proved they could hold their own after Bean’s departure, the production is hedging its bets with a Sean-to-Shaun exchange, casting PBS favorite Shaun Evans in a major guest-star role for Season 2. He appears in the trailer around the 1-minute mark below.
Here’s the Season 2 synopsis:
Picking up where things left off at the end of series one, Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they are dragged back into the fold to answer questions about Ricardo’s death. Back in Liverpool, tensions continue to bubble amongst the remaining members of the gang. Meanwhile, an old-school gangster from Ronnie’s era, recently out of prison, wants compensation from the firm.
Season 2 stars James Nelson Joyce (A Thousand Blows) as Michael Kavanagh, Hannah Onslow (This Is Going to Hurt) as his partner Diana; Jack McMullen (Hijack) as rival Jamie Phelan; Julie Graham (Time) as Jamie’s mother Elaine Phelan; Mike Noble (The Long Shadow) as Michael’s lieutenant, Banksey; and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) as Diana’s BFF, Cheryl Crawford. Season 2 also brings back Adam Abbou (Time) as Freddie; Laura Aikman (Archie) as Rachel Duffy; Kevin Harvey (Treason) as Bobby Duffy; and Darci Shaw (The Irregulars) as Melissa Sullivan.
Season 2 will introduce Shaun Evans (Endeavour) as former gangster Ozzie Thompson, and Álvaro Morte (The Wheel of Time) as the new Colombian cartel head, Felipe Guzman, younger brother of Season 1’s Ricardo.
Stephen Butchard (The Last Kingdom) returns as lead writer on the eight-episode series with Robbie O’Neill. Director Saul Dibb (The Sixth Commandment) returns, this time splitting helming duties with Chris Baugh (In Flight); Simon Maloney and Nathan Juckes producing. Butchard and Dibb executive produce with Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson & Sian McWilliams for Left Bank Pictures, and Jo McClellan for the BBC.
This City Is Ours Season 2 premieres on BBC One on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with episodes airing weekly on Sundays and Mondays through early November. All episodes will be available on iPlayer from premiere day.
