Robson Green & Jason Watkins Will Continue 'The Game' in Season 2
Fans of 'Grantchester' will get another Robson Green fix as BritBox and 5 continue 'The Game.'
The thriller series The Game officially got the nod it would go to BritBox while we were on hiatus, and arrived just as we were starting back up in early January 2026. So it’s fitting that the announcement from the U.K.’s 5 (formerly Channel 5) that the series was in production for Season 2 lands just as we were in the middle of our relaunch. Starring McDonald & Dodd’s Jason Watkins and Grantchester favorite Robson Green, the cat-and-mouse thriller between a retired cop and a not-so-retired serial killer will play on.
Season 1 followed the story of Huw Miller, played by Watkins, a recently retired police detective still haunted by the serial killer that got away. When a new neighbor, Patrick Harbottle (Green), casually utters the phrase “catch you later” – the sign off the stalker used – Miller becomes convinced he’s being stalked and readied to be the next to die.
It’s pretty typical for actors who have spent a decade pigeonholed as the hero to break out of that mold by playing against type. Shaun Evans of Endeavour did the same thing, taking on the role of real-life serial killer John Sweeney in Until I Kill You. So it wasn’t that big a twist when the show revealed that Miller did indeed have the serial killer he’d been stalking in his sights. Now the two will return for another round of psychological warfare as Miller attempts to move on with his life.

Here’s the Season 2 synopsis:
Set a year after series one, we see former detective Huw, who, after surviving a brutal stabbing, believes he has finally escaped the psychological grip of serial killer Patrick, now safely behind bars. Retreating with his wife Alice to an isolated house by the sea, Huw is determined to rebuild a quiet life, far from the violence that nearly destroyed them. But peace, he soon realises, is an illusion.
Along with Watkins and Green, Sunetra Sarker (Professor T) also returns for Season 2 as Huw’s long-suffering wife, Alice, and Indy Lewis (Industry) as their daughter, Margot. Amber James (Heartstopper) also reprises her role as DS Jenny Atkins from Season 1.
Season 2 will introduce a roster of new faces as the Millers relocate to a new area, including Sonny Ashbourne Serkis (Masters of the Air), Tanya Franks (Broadchurch), Dominic Rowan (The Crown), Amanda Bright (The Buccaneers), Richard Pepple (COBRA), Connor Calland (Adolescence), and Carl Rice (Brassic).
Writer Tom Grieves (Being Human) returns to pen all episodes of Season 2, with director Toby Frow (Death in Paradise) back behind the camera, helming all episodes, and Mick Pantaleo producing. Paul Testar executive produces with Sebastian Cardwell for Channel 5, Rachel Gesua & MD Mike Benson for Clapperboard, and Jonathan Ford & Will Stapley for Sphere Abacus.
The Game Season 2 is in production in the U.K. It is expected to debut on 5 before the end of 2026, then follow on BritBox in early 2027.
