'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Gets Season 2 Renewal Ahead of Debut

Outlander fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Though the original series’ journey is set to come to a close in short order — its final season will likely begin airing before the end of the year — the larger franchise built around the period romance seems to be thriving. The prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood isn’t set to premiere until August, but it has already secured a second-season order. Production on Season 2 is now officially underway in Scotland, on the same stages where Outlander filmed for the past decade.

The series depicts the love stories of the parents of the flagship series’ primary protagonists, told across dual timelines set in both 18th-century Scotland and World War I-era England. In one, we follow Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, whose romance we’re at least slightly familiar with thanks to Claire’s time at Castle Leoch back in Outlander’s first season. Fans know far less about the relationship between Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, merely that they died in a car accident when their daughter was just five years old.

“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of My Blood has been extraordinary, and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in Season Two,” series showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said in a statement. “Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer.”
