AMC’s ‘Yaga’ Sets October Premiere Date
AMC+ will put a new spin on the legend of Baba Yaga this Halloween season.
AMC has set an October premiere date for its buzzy genre-bending series Yaga. The eight-episode drama reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga as a contemporary mystery thriller set in a small coastal town. (The vibes, as the kids say, are immaculate.)
The show probably doesn’t need much help on the attention-grabbing front, since it’s the first major project for star Hudson Williams since he starred in the megapopular hockey romance Heated Rivalry. The sheer number of viewers who will probably try this series simply because he’s in it is basically the stuff of AMC’s dreams. Thankfully, the footage we’ve seen so far indicates the show should be an entertaining ride, if nothing else.
The series follows a private investigator (Noah Reid) charged with digging up the truth about the disappearance of the handsome young heir (Williams) to a local fishery empire. But as his investigation continues, he finds himself at odds with several enigmatic locals, including a university professor who likes younger men (Carrie-Anne Moss) and a fearful local detective (Clark Backo).
How their stories ultimately intersect—and how they connect to the legend of the famous Slavic witch—are questions only the series itself can answer, but its premise certainly seems entertaining enough.

Here’s the series’ synopsis.
Yaga follows Rapp, a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park. He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson, a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine, and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic.
The ensemble cast includes Sheila McCarthy (The Miniature Wife), Katharine Isabelle (Ghosts), Hiro Kanagawa (Shogun), Megan Follows (Murdoch Mysteries), Ezra Franky (Untamed), Patrick Gilmore (School Spirits), Emilija Baranac (The Midnight Club), Georgia Acken (Under the Bridge), Anisa Harris (Yellowjackets), and Sam Krochmal (Voicemails for Isabelle).
The series is based on the play by Kat Sadler (Kim’s Convenience)*, who also serves as the series’ showrunner and writer, with David Frazee (Vikings) and Rachel Talalay (Good Omens) directing and Charles Cooper as producer.

Yaga will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday, September 17, 2026. It will debut on AMC+ on Friday, October 23, with two episodes, followed by one a week before, culminating in a two-part finale at the end of November.
