‘Wolf’ Sniffs Out Debut Spot on Acorn TV Schedule

It took nearly four years for the BBC thriller Wolf to initially cross the pond. Based on Mo Hayder’s acclaimed Jack Caffery novels, the series was originally announced in March 2022 and aired on BBC One in the summer of 2023. Despite a high-profile cast – including several faces well known to Americans via PBS and HBO – and a seven-book lineup that could have kept the show airing for half a decade, the series didn’t really fare all that well in the ratings.

The nail in the coffin, however, was the failure to find an American distributor, as the one-two punch of the pandemic and the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike upended what had been a seller’s market for British series as American streamers scrambled in a race for new shows. What once would have been a no-brainer for someone to pick up wound up sitting on the shelf until almost the end of 2025, when horror-focused streaming service Shudder – one of the many niche services under the AMC Global brand umbrella – scooped it up for a New Year’s Weekend debut, streaming it weekly to help kick off 2026.

Shudder is one of the few genuinely successful streaming services AMC owns, along with Acorn TV. While Wolf, which has serious horror vibes, made a lot of sense, it raised the question of why AMC hadn’t gone for a multi-service debut, as it did with Happy Valley or SisterS. Apparently, AMC has now asked itself this question and will correct the oversight by including Wolf as part of Acorn TV’s “An Autumn to Die For” lineup, which also includes the former AMC+ show The Red King and Sundance Now series The Assassin shifting from their lesser-watched platforms to Acorn.

Jack finds himself trying to right the wrongs of others - but at what cost? Meanwhile, in an isolated house in Monmouthshire, the wealthy Anchor-Ferrers family find themselves the victims of a psychopath’s cruel games, trapped and terrorized. When the two narratives collide, it becomes a thrilling, nail-biting, and deeply disturbing race against time.

Ukweli Roach (Annika) stars as the series detective, DI Jack Caffery, with Sian Reese-Williams (Line of Duty) as DI Maia Lincoln. The cast also includes Juliet Stevenson (Professor T) as Matilda Anchor-Ferrers, Owen Teale (Death Valley) as Oliver Anchor-Ferrers, and Annes Elwy (The Light in the Hall) as Lucia Anchor-Ferrers, plus Sacha Dhawan (Doctor Who) as Honey and Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) as Molina.

The rest of the very Welsh cast also includes Kai Owen (Torchwood), Anthony Gethin Alderman (The Great), Karl Johnson (Call the Midwife), Tim Treloar (Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?), Amanda Drew (The Gold), and emerging actors Emma Cooney and Emily Adara.

Megan Gallagher (Suspicion) adapted Mo Hayder’s novels and penned all episodes. Directors Lee Haven Jones (The Long Call) and Kristoffer Nyholm (The Vanishing) split helming duties across the show’s six installments, with Nikki Wilson producing. Elaine Cameron executive produced for Hartswood Films, with Laurent Boissel for APC Studios and Ben Irving for the BBC.

All six episodes of Wolf will debut as a binge on Acorn TV on Monday, October 26, 2026.
