At this point, we’re on borrowed time with Sir David Attenborough. The man who spent his entire career inventing nature programming as we know it today is somehow still going, six months after turning 100, with brand-new TV series lined up to debut in 2027 and 2028.

The latest, Blue Planet III, is the third and final installment in the original trilogy that kicked off his Planet Earth franchise. Blue Planet – a deep dive into the oceans that cover more than half the Earth – predated the flagship Planet Earth trilogy by five years and now concludes a year after Planet Earth III’s debut. That still leaves the third trilogy, Frozen Planet, with its third and final installment slated to arrive before the end of the decade, something we all dearly hope Attenborough will be able to stick around for. That said, both sides of the pond are going all out to promote this installment, just in case he doesn’t.

As usual, the BBC will release the series first, closing out the year with new episodes. Then the series will arrive on BBC America just after the new year, and stream simultaneously on the parent company’s flagship service, AMC+.

Here’s the series’ synopsis:

The original The Blue Planet transformed audiences’ understanding of life beneath the waves. Narrated once again by Sir David Attenborough, Blue Planet III marks the return of one of the world's most iconic natural history franchises.

As always, Sir David Attenborough narrates the series. Hans Zimmer once again created the series’ original score; the BBC has confirmed he will tour the U.K. in 2027 with a full orchestra for Blue Planet III Live in Concert.

For the first time, Attenborough isn’t credited as an executive producer; instead, Elizabeth White is the main executive producer, with Lara Bickerton and James Brickell as series producers. BBC Studios Natural History Production co-produced the series with BBC America, ZDF, and France Télévisions, in association with Skai Greece, and in partnership with The Open University for BBC.

Blue Planet III will debut on BBC One and iPlayer in the U.K. on Sunday, November 1, 2026. It will then air on BBC America and stream on AMC+ in the U.S. beginning Saturday, January 23, 2027, with one episode a week through early March. Blue Planet III Live in Concert will tour the U.K. in 2027.
