Martin Clunes Joins ‘Down Cemetery Road’ Season 2
The Season 2 cast will include several favorites, the highest-profile of which is long-time PBS favorite Martin Clunes.
Of all the shows we missed out on covering during our 2025 hiatus, none was more irritating than Down Cemetery Road. After season after season of Gary Oldman and his farts in Slow Horses, Apple was finally adapting the Mick Herron series we could get into, starring two of the greatest actors of our generation: Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson.
Thankfully, Season 1 was a hit despite our not covering it, and Season 2 was announced shortly before we relaunched. However, since then, Apple TV has gone silent on the subject. Season 1 followed Slow Horses Season 5 directly and rode its success, but despite the renewal, Apple TV didn’t grant Down Cemetery Road the one-season-a-year schedule Slow Horses gets, and said nothing about Season 2 in the run-up to Slow Horses Season 6’s premiere.
Part of the reason Apple hadn’t made any announcements, it turns out, is that Season 2 hadn’t actually started filming yet. Despite the season stating it would adapt the second and fourth Zoë Boehm novels, The Last Voice You Hear and Smoke & Whispers, casting for Season 2 has only just been confirmed as Slow Horses wraps up.
However, the Season 2 cast will include several favorites, the highest-profile of which is long-time PBS favorite Martin Clunes, who stars as one of the central characters for the second season’s case.

Here’s the Season 2 synopsis:
Season 2 reunites Zoë Boehm and Sarah Trafford as they chase another twisted mystery. After a woman falls in front of a train, Zoë is called in to investigate, but this seemingly simple case soon upends her life as she and Sarah navigate the dark side of the glamorous world of art and antiquities. Matters take a deadly turn when they stumble into the path of a brutal serial killer who will stop at nothing to cover up his crimes.
Season 2 will bring back Thompson (Sense & Sensibility) as Zoë Boehm and Wilson (His Dark Materials) as Sarah Tucker. Other Season 1 returnees include Joshua James (Andor) as morgue worker Wayne, Sarah Kesstleman (This Is Going to Hurt) as Janice Silverman, and Tom Riley (Murder is Easy) as Sarah’s husband, Mark Tucker.
Clunes (Doc Martin) is joined by nearly a dozen new faces for Season 2, including Amanda Abbington (Sherlock), Fionn Whitehead (Great Expectations), Liz White (Unforgotten), Jeff Rawle (Grantchester), Yali Topol Margalith (Alice & Steve), Paterson Joseph (Boat Story), Ashley McGuire (It’s a Sin), Dimitri Leonidas (The Split Up), Amber Grappy (One Day), Paul Chahidi (The Night Manager), and Aasiya Shah (The Beast Must Die).

Morwenna Banks (Funny Woman) is the lead writer on the series, and director Natalie Bailey (Run) helmed all eight episodes. Banks is also an executive producer along with Thompson, Herron, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films.
Filming for Down Cemetery Road Season 2 is expected to begin before the end of 2026, and debut sometime in 2027. All episodes of Season 1 are streaming on Apple TV.
