Hulu Announces Rechristened ‘Only Murders in London’
Yes, there’s no place like 'Only Murders in London'...
There’s such a thing as letting a joke run too long, and as much as we love Only Murders in the Building around here, I think it’s pretty clear the show has been skirting the edge of that for at least two seasons. Thus far, there’s always been a saving grace (mostly in the form of Meryl Streep) despite the series’ ill-advised move to Los Angeles for Season 4. One would think – since the show is literally called Only Murders in the Building – that the semi-triumphant return to said building in NYC in Season 5 would mean they’d stay there.
But no, the siren song of U.K. viewership (where the show is a MASSIVE hit) and Royal Shakespeare veterans as potential guest stars was too tempting. However, unlike the Los Angeles season, the producers have decided, since they’ve currently cast 23 U.K.-born guest stars and counting, that the only thing to be done is to change the show’s name.
Season 6 will officially be called Only Murders in London. This savvy choice not only gives the series a chance to revitalize but also capitalizes on the ludicrously long parade of A-list actors joining the roster for one season only. With a premiere date before the end of the year, and Rivals Season 2 returning around the same time, this could be a one-two punch of Brits saving the day for Disney+.
Hulu also released a few first-look photos along with the release date, all of which look like Steve Martin and Martin Short being herded around the tourist areas of London by Selena Gomez while they’re on vacation. (Because that’s exactly what they’re doing; they also happen to be making a TV show in between sightseeing.)
Here’s the official synopsis for Only Murders in London:
After successfully bringing the guilty to justice once again, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel embark on their hardest case yet when the next victim — Cinda Canning — arrives at their doorstep, summoning them to London to catch her killer. Our beloved trio of true crime-solving podcasters must now navigate the home of the cozy murder mystery, replete with a whole new collection of suspicious and particularly English-eccentric characters. But can they follow in the footsteps of the woman whose podcast started it all for them... without their story ending the same as hers?
The new season will once again star Americans Martin (The Muppet Movie) as Charles-Haden Savage, Short (Schmigadoon!) as Oliver Putnam, and Gomez (Emilia Pérez) as Mabel Mora, with series regulars Michael Cyril Creighton (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Howard Morris and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) as DI Donna Williams.
The British cast is a literal who’s who of British A-list stars, with not one, not two, but three veterans of the TARDIS: David Tennant (Time), Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record), and Jodie Whittaker (Toxic Town). We also have multiple members who married into the Bridgerton family, with Nicola Coughlan (Big Mood) and Simone Ashley (Sex Education). If that weren’t enough, they also got legendary comedians Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), and Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), plus former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner.
There’s also an entire phalanx of PBS stalwarts, including Derek Jacobi (I Claudius), Lesley Nichol (Downton Abbey), Olivia Colman (Broadchurch), Jim Broadbent (War & Peace), Kathryn Hunter (Les Misérables), Matthew Beard (Vienna Blood), Jane Horrocks (COBRA), Sean Teale (The Gold), and Martin Freeman (Sherlock). Finally, but no less important than those above, there are several up-and-comers on the roster, including Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), Amar Chadha-Patel (Fifteen-Love), Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper), Adrian Lukis (The Crown), and Jamie Demetriou (Pride & Prejudice).
The series hails from co-creators and writers Martin and John Hoffman and 20th Television. Season 6 executive producers include Hoffman, Martin, Short, and Gomez, as well as Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith, Jennifer Crittenden & Gabrielle Allan.
Only Murders in London will debut on Tuesday, December 8, 2026, and stream new episodes weekly into the new year. Seasons 1 through 5 are streaming on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S.
