'Patience' Season 2 Scores Early PBS Passport Release
'Patience' rewarded! Fans of the Yorkshire-set remake of the hit Walter Presents series 'Astrid' will be blessed with an early release of Season 2 on PBS Passport.
Rejoice, PBS fans, as Patience is rewarded! The Yorkshire-set remake of the hit French series Astrid has landed a coveted early streaming release on PBS Passport. It was already obvious that the series was a major hit for both Channel 4 (where it airs in the U.K.) and PBS, with the episode order bumped from six to eight for the show’s second season, and Season 3 already in pre-production. But bestowing an early release for Season 2 immediately bumps the show into a rarified group that includes dramatic heavy-hitters like Call The Midwife, Miss Scarlet, and Sanditon.
Much like Professor T’s early release in 2025, Patience won’t arrive too far ahead of the show’s debut on linear television. The newly expanded-to-eight-episodes Season 2 will arrive only two weeks before the show debuts on local PBS stations alongside Grantchester’s 11th and final season. However, given the major changes coming with the show’s return, hardcore fans will appreciate getting a jump on what’s changing.
Season 2 has a major casting turnover with the exit of Laura Fraser (Outlander), the show’s version of Raphaëlle, DI Bea Metcalf. Fraser was the famous, established name in Season 1 alongside newcomer Ella Maisy Purvis as the titular Patience. It says a lot about Purvis’ popularity and the producers’ belief in her as a star that, when Fraser wasn’t available to film Season 2, the show went forward without her, instead introducing a new colleague for Patience Evans to get used to, the motorbike-riding DI Frankie Monroe, played by W1A’s Jessica Hynes.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Season 2, Patience is back tackling puzzling crimes when new detective Frankie Monroe bursts onto the scene. Their differences spark tension, but they must learn to work as a team as they investigate murders and mysteries across the city. Meanwhile, Patience searches for her mother and navigates the ups and downs of new love as she begins a relationship with a work colleague, Elliot, all whilst tackling intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings such as York Minster.
And here are the episode titles:
- Episode 1 - “Vampire”
- Episode 2 - “Music In The Minster”
- Episode 3 - “The Magpie
- Episode 4 - “The Timetable”
- Episode 5 - “The Runes”
- Episode 6 - “Paco’s Revenge”
- Episode 7 - “A Monk's Tale”
- Episode 8 - “Hostage”

Along with Purvis and Hynes, Season 2 brings back the core cast, with Nathan Welsh (Domina) as DS Jake Hunter, Liza Sadovy (Ridley Road) as Dr. Loretta Parsons, Ali Ariaie (The Great), as DC Will Akbari, Mark Benton (Shakespeare & Hathaway) as Calvin Baxter, Adrian Rawlins (The White Princess) as Douglas Gilmore, and Tom Lewis (Gentleman Jack) as Elliot Scott.
As always, neurodiverse actors will play all neurodivergent characters in the series.
