‘This City Is Ours’ Season 2 First Images Include Shaun Evans
The BBC has released the first images for 'This City Is Ours,' including our first look at Season 2’s Sean-to-Shaun transfer.
In most gangster genre fare, winning isn’t everything – figuring out how to survive is the real prize. If so, AMC Global is a small-time gangster hero of the streaming wars because it’s still here. For the first half of the 2020s, that was far from assured; the company is the only one that has kept the streaming services it acquired as separate entities instead of trying to roll everything up into a single maximalist product.
It was a choice made out of necessity – merging multiple services into a single app is an expensive process. But by the middle of the decade, keeping all its offerings as single-minded niche services finally paid off, with Shudder (horror), Acorn TV (cozy crime), and AMC+ (gangsters & monsters) all finally breaking into the mainstream conversation.
AMC+’s monster series have been the main story of 2026, with the success of The Vampire Lestat (aka Interview with the Vampire Season 3). But we should not ignore the sleeper-hit success of dramas like Gangs of London. Most importantly, where we once would have bemoaned a massive hit like BBC’s This City is Ours being “trapped on a service no one watches” by streaming on AMC+, we now have genuine hope the show can find an audience on this side of the pond, with Season 2 heading our way in 2027.
Here’s the Season 2 synopsis:
Picking up where things left off at the end of Season 1, Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they are dragged back into the fold to answer questions about Ricardo’s death. Back in Liverpool, tensions continue to bubble amongst the remaining members of the gang. Meanwhile, an old-school gangster from Ronnie’s era, recently out of prison, wants compensation from the firm.
Season 2 will introduce Shaun Evans (Endeavour) as former gangster Ozzie Thompson, and Álvaro Morte (The Wheel of Time) as the new Colombian cartel head, Felipe Guzman, younger brother of Season 1’s Ricardo.
Returning cast for Season 2 includes James Nelson Joyce (A Thousand Blows) as Michael Kavanagh, Hannah Onslow (This Is Going to Hurt) as his partner Diana; Jack McMullen (Hijack) as rival Jamie Phelan; Julie Graham (Time) as Jamie’s mother Elaine Phelan; Mike Noble (The Long Shadow) as Michael’s lieutenant, Banksey, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) as Diana’s BFF, Cheryl Crawford. Season 2 also sees the return of Adam Abbou (Time) as Freddie; Laura Aikman (Archie) as Rachel Duffy, Kevin Harvey (Treason) as Bobby Duffy, and Darci Shaw (The Irregulars) as Melissa Sullivan.

Stephen Butchard (The Last Kingdom) returns as lead writer on the eight-episode series with Robbie O’Neill. Director Saul Dibb (The Sixth Commandment) returns, this time splitting helming duties with Chris Baugh (In Flight); Simon Maloney and Nathan Juckes producing. Butchard and Dibb executive produce with Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson & Sian McWilliams for Left Bank Pictures, and Jo McClellan for the BBC.
This City Is Ours Season 2 will premiere on the BBC before the end of 2026, and follow in the U.S. in early 2027. Season 1 is streaming on AMC+.
