The Great Detective Becomes a Father in the 'Sherlock & Daughter' Trailer
With the arrival of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories in the public domain, it pretty much means anything goes now when it comes to the world of the iconic British detective. Watson is out here trying to tell a Sherlock story in which Holmes is not even present. Prime Video's forthcoming Young Sherlock series will give the great detective's backstory a dash of teen angst. Then there's CW's latest drama, which will ask a question that probably none of us have ever even wondered about at any point in our lives: What if Sherlock Holmes was a dad?
Sherlock & Daughter introduces us to Amelia Rojas (Blu Hunt), a spunky nineteenth-century American teen who journeys to London's Baker Street hoping to get the great Sherlock Holmes (David Thewlis) to help solve her mother's murder. There's just one small twist — according to her late mom, Holmes may actually be Amelia's father.
Sherlock, already dealing with a complex case he can't investigate directly without putting the lives of his nearest and dearest at risk, decides that things can't possibly get any messier than they already are and decides to team up with Amelia to try and figure out the answers to their collective mysteries. Whether she's Holmes's progeny, what happened to her mother, and how exactly Professor Moriarty fits into all this are questions the series' first season will have to answer; however, this series is certainly trying something (wildly) different with the Holmes canon.
