Acorn TV Sets August Release Date for Alicia Silverstone's 'Irish Blood'

Nineties icon Alicia Silverstone is coming to Acorn TV this summer. The streamer has announced that its latest cozy crime thriller, Irish Blood, will officially premiere this August.

Best known for her turn as a contemporary Emma Woodhouse in Clueless, Silverstone plays divorce lawyer Fiona Sharpe, whose father, Declan (Jason O'Mara), abandoned her and her mother when she was just a child. Thirty-some years later, an out-of-the-blue message sends her to Ireland in the hopes of solving the mystery of his sudden disappearance. Along the way, Fiona uncovers new truths about her father, his dark past, and meets a family she never knew, all of which reshape her understanding of herself and her history in new and unexpected ways.

Irish Blood is the latest entry in Acorn TV's ever-growing line of cozy crime dramas starring actors looking for a reboot into a different phase of their careers. The best example of this is probably My Life is Murder, the popular series in which former Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless has been playing a retired detective who helps solve crimes around spending time with her cat for four seasons now. (With a fifth slated for later this year)  But Lawless is hardly alone: Former Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman star Jane Seymour has found career rejuvenation playing the titular crime-solving English professor Harry Wild, and former True Blood heartthrob Steven Moyer is busy tracking down prestige art thieves in Art Detectives.
