‘Marble Hall Murders’ Trailer Muses on Monsters
The full-length trailer for 'Marble Hall Murders' is here with one more mystery for Atticus Pund to solve.
All good things must come to an end. So it is that we say goodbye to one of Masterpiece’s best trilogies of the 2020s with the coming debut of Marble Hall Murders, the third and final installment of what’s now officially titled The Susan Ryeland Mysteries*. Lesley Manville returns as the now-titular Susan Ryeland, and Tim McMullin as her favorite character, crime-solving partner, Atticus Pund, for one more mystery in September 2026.
(*I know Horowitz got annoyed when we asked him about refusing to call it Magpie Murders Season 2, but it was this exact issue we were trying to get at; streaming services need a way to connect the seasons for their audiences – and PBS needs them all to be findable by clicking a single link.)
The series’ last mystery has a bit of a weird twist. Unlike Seasons 1 and 2, we meet an almost entirely new cast in Marble Hall, while the series also introduces viewers to something that’s a relatively inside-baseball part of publishing: the concept of the continuation novel. For those unfamiliar with the term, it’s a sequel novel written by a new writer after the original author passes away. Continuation novels can be either official (with the permission of the author’s estate) or unofficial (once the book is out of copyright), keeping the continuity – and usually only a few characters – from the previous works.
The concept may feel a bit awkward, but since Marble Hall Murders also feels a bit like a continuity novel, with only a few characters carrying over, we trust Masterpiece to make it work.
Here’s the third installment’s synopsis.
In Marble Hall Murders, Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect. In the world of the novel, Atticus Pünd is visiting the island of Corfu when he becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective.

Alongside Manville (Sherwood) and McMullan (The Crown), Claire Rushbrook (Rivals) returns for the final season as Susan’s sister, Kate. The rest of the cast are all newcomers: Jamie Blackley (Outrageous), Mark Bonnar (Ludwig), Daniel Cerqueira (This City is Ours), Patricia Hodge (All Creatures Great & Small), Harry Lloyd (I, Jack Wright), Rupert Penry-Jones (The Feud on Shelbury Drive), Anneika Rose (Line of Duty), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve), and Zubin Varla (Andor). Many of the cast will be performing dual roles: as characters in the show’s contemporary world and as fictional versions of those same characters in the 1950s-set novel.
Horowitz wrote all six episodes, adapted from his novel of the same name. Director Rebecca Gatward helmed all installments, with Suzanne McAuley producing. Executive producers are Jill Green for Eleventh Hour Films and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.
Marble Hall Murders will premiere on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 9 p.m. alongside Season 3 of The Marlow Murder Club on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
