'The Diplomat' is about to get called to the carpet as Season 4 rolls in.
While star Keri Russell (The Americans) was once again denied the Best Actress trophy she’s long deserved at this year’s Emmy Awards (sigh), The Diplomat fans still have some good news. Netflix has dropped the full trailer for Season 4 of the popular political thriller, and it looks as though this outing will be the show’s most bonkers yet.
Known for its twisty plot and complicated relationship dynamics, the series follows Russell’s Kate Wyler, American ambassador to the United Kingdom, who had plenty of drama enough in her own professional life before her husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), was unexpectedly named Vice President of the United States last season by former Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney), who moved into the Oval Office after her boss died unexpectedly.
(Just go with it. This is how The Diplomat rolls. Think of it as The West Wing’s unhinged cousin.)
Season 4 will pick up in the wake of yet another bonkers cliffhanger: The revelation that President Penn and Vice President Wyler secretly signed off on the theft of a Russian nuclear weapon. Now that Kate’s learned the truth, she’ll have to decide what to do with it, both within her marriage and on the global stage.
Here’s the Season 4 synopsis:
In Season 4 of The Diplomat, two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save. While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.

Alongside Russell, Sewell, and Janney, Bradley Whitford (Death By Lightning) is back as First Gentleman Todd Penn. The series’ returning cast also includes Ato Essandoh (Elementary), Ali Ahn (Agatha All Along), Nana Mensah (Big Boys), and Rory Kinnear (Amadeus).
Cahn is back as showrunner and writer for Season 4. She and Russell are also executive producers, alongside Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.
The Diplomat Season 4 premieres on October 15, 2026, on Netflix. Seasons 1-3 are currently streaming. Season 5 has not yet been greenlit.
