'The Forsytes' Season 2 Teaser Heralds the Dawn of a New Era
The Forsytes will be back in 2027 and so will the fallout from all their choices.
While the first season concluded with the titular family of The Forsytes facing a set of daunting new challenges and public humiliations, it doesn’t sound like these issues will keep them down for very long. As soon as the finale concluded, Masterpiece dropped a brand new teaser for the series’ forthcoming second season, which is slated to air next year. The vibes are all about the troubled clan attempting to pick themselves back up after their various failures.
The clip itself is fairly brief — less than a minute in length — but gives us some tantalizing glimpses of where these characters will be headed in Season 2. There’s Irene, vowing to rededicate herself to the marriage she can’t reasonably expect to get out of. Frances and Jolyn Sr. are plotting how to make the most of the new social season. Soames has an (almost assuredly terrible) idea to rebuild the family’s cratered reputation. And Jo and his new family are bathed in the sort of idyllic light that’s meant to tell us we’re supposed to think he made the right choice.
There’s even a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of Outlander star Richard Rankin, who’s joining the cast next season.
Here’s a brief Season 2 description from when the renewal was first announced.
In this next chapter the proud dynasty faces a new era of scandal, ambition, and shifting loyalties. As love, legacy and reputation collide, the cracks in the family’s polished façade grow ever deeper.
The bulk of the series’ sprawling main cast is expected to return, including Francesca Annis (Flesh & Blood) as the Forsyte matriarch, Ann, Stephen Moyer (Art Detectives) as Jolyon Senior, Jack Davenport (Ten Percent) as James, Danny Griffin (The Gentlemen) as Jo, Tuppence Middleton (Our House) as Frances, Eleanor Tomlinson (The Couple Next Door) as Louisa, Joshua Orpin (Home and Away) as Soames, Millie Gibson (Doctor Who) as Irene, Justine Moore (Call the Midwife) as June, Jamie Flatters (Liar) as Phillip, and Tom Durant Pritchard (Miss Scarlet) as Monty.
Season 2 will also add a handful of fresh faces, with Sarah Alexander (Art Detectives) and Nia Ashi (Bob Marley: One Love) joining Rankin as the new kids on the block. The roles of all three are currently being kept under wraps, but with the romantic upheaval running throughout the Season 1 finale, one has to assume that at least one of these folks is there as a potential love interest.
(My money is on Rankin. Frances deserves.)
The series is written by Debbie Horsfield, with Meenu Gaur (Murder Is Easy) and Annetta Laufer (Get Millie Black) directing and Sarah Lewis (The Long Shadow) producing. Horsfield and Gaur executive produce with Sheena Buckton-Wonsing, Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.
The Forsytes Season 2 will premiere in 2027. Season 1 is currently streaming on the PBS app, PBS Passport, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
