The ‘Vigil’ Season 3 Trailer Heats Up the Arctic Landscape
It’s a hot time in a cold place as 'Vigil' heads to the Arctic to solve the latest case.
Of the mainstream streaming services left, Peacock is the next most likely to fall in the mergers-and-acquisitions game. While Comcast proudly announced in July 2026 that the service had – for the first time since it launched in mid-2020 – finally turned a profit, the current sentiment is that it’s too little and far too late. Comcast has managed to subsidize the failing service by offering it for free to its cable subscribers – but that trick only worked as long as a plurality of viewers stayed cable viewers, something that’s no longer a given.
While it’s not yet certain what will happen to the service, we can at least be thankful it lasted long enough to bring over all three seasons of The Capture, both seasons of The Undeclared War, and now all three seasons of Vigil – three of the genuinely great British thrillers of the 2020s.
That Peacock has completely failed to market them to an American audience (or do much of anything with them) is neither here nor there. Considering we’re in an era where renewed seasons find themselves suddenly un-renewed, and series like The Great Pottery Throw Down see later seasons disappear into the ether as the streaming services that initially housed them are digested by larger corporations, there is something to be said for shows that can keep the entire run in one place.
Here’s the Season 3 synopsis:
DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre return for a new case that takes them to a remote Arctic research station, where a member of a covert British special forces mission has been shot dead.
Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and defuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land-grab for energy and resources in the changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line.

Suranne Jones (MaryLand) and Rose Leslie (Downton Abbey) return as investigators DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre. They’re once again joined by series stalwarts Gary Lewis (Down Cemetery Road) and Dominic Mafham (Steal) as DS Robertson and Sir Ian Downing.
Each season of Vigil takes place at a different military installation, which means every case brings in a new roster of high-profile guest stars for the season-long mystery. For Season 3, the lineup includes Benjamin Wainwright (Maigret) and Steven Miller (Dept.Q) as Special Boat Service operators Oli Pickford and Mark Cunningham; Danusia Samal (Red Eye) as Sir Ian’s assistant, Jasmine Kelly; Jeppe Beck Laursen (The Last Kingdom) as local police chief Henrick Becken; Naomi Yang (Under Salt Marsh) as microbiologist Shen Jia; Eric Godon (In Bruges) as Mayor Korotayev; Amy Manson (Rebus) as geologist Lorna McCallister; and Tornike Gogrichiani (Drops of God) as Colonel Fyodor.
The ensemble cast also includes Artur Zai Barrera (For All Mankind), Jordan Duvigneau (Mood), Kaisa Hammarlund (Hijack), Adam Fidusiewicz (A Gentleman in Moscow), Conor Berry (Karen Pirie), Derek Riddell (Industry), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Steven Cree (All of You), Killian Coyle (Shetland), Alma Prelec (Fifteen Love) Dawn Sievewright (Undertow), and Shereen Cutkelvin (Summerwater).

Series creator Tom Edge (The Crown) returns as lead writer, with Tom Mair and Eve Hedderwick Turner also penning episodes. Directors Gareth Bryn (Last Tango in Halifax) and Faye Gilbert (The Bay) split helming duties, with Marcus Wilson producing. Edge is also an executive producer, alongside Jake Lushington for World Productions, and Gaynor Holmes and Stephanie Fyfe for the BBC.
Vigil Season 3 will premiere in the U.K. before the end of 2026 and will eventually follow on Peacock. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming.
