Breathe easy, Best Medicine fans, Martin Best’s medical practice looks like it’s going to be open for the long haul. Fox’s American remake of the popular British comedy Doc Martin has already landed a Season 2 renewal.

This news likely won’t surprise anyone who saw how popular the original series was among viewers on both sides of the pond. (Apparently, everyone has a thing for grumpy medical professionals with blood phobias.) The original Doc Martin ran for 10 seasons and was a mainstay on public television stations around the country. Its U.S. cousin seemed immediately primed for similar success and has been one of the television season’s most successful debuts.

Best Medicine stars Josh Charles (The Good Wife) as Martin Best, a former surgeon from Boston who abruptly leaves his position to become a general practitioner in the idyllic Maine village where he used to spend summers as a child. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons about love, community, and human connection from the quirky group of local residents.

Best Medicine quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network. “Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propagate, are excited to build on that momentum in Season 2.”

The show has performed quite well for the network, averaging around six million viewers per episode across all platforms. Its second season will comprise 12 episodes and air during the 2026-2027 TV year.

Alongside Charles, the series also stars Abigail Spencer (Extended Family) as Louisa, Josh Segarra (The Other Two) as Mark Mylow, John DiMaggio (Krapopolis) as Bert Large, Carl Shimp (Mayfair Witches) as Al Large, Cree (Big Sky) as Elaine Denton, Stephen Spinella (The Gilded Age) as Greg Garrison, Jason Veasey (Only Murders in the Building) as George Brady, and Annie Potts (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) as Martin’s Aunt Sarah. Also, Martin Clunes, star of the original Doc Martin, recently appeared on the show as Dr. Best’s father, Robert.

Liz Tuccillo is the series showrunner and an executive producer alongside Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, and Howard T. Owens of Propagate Content and Doc Martin EPs Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite.

Best Medicine is currently airing weekly on FOX through the Season 1 finale on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Season 1 episodes are streaming on Hulu.
