‘Gone’ Will Return for Season 2

It took a while for ITV to get around to greenlighting it but 'Gone' will return for Season 2.

After the surprise success of the ITV series Gone in early 2026, it seemed likely the series was a shoo-in to continue for further seasons. The first outing was a fictionalized story based on the real-life experiences of former DSU Julie Mackay, detailed in the non-fiction best-seller To Hunt A Killer, written with ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy.

With a main lead in PBS fan favorite Eve Myles, and an A-list guest-star suspect in David Morrissey (Tip Toe), the series looked to be angling for a pickup as a semi-anthology series in the spirit of Unforgotten with one case per season. Moreover, the production seemed to be prepping for a multi-series run by fleshing out the police procedural’s investigative side with a strong ensemble.

It took a while for ITV to get around to greenlighting it – a forgivable delay, considering the network is currently about to be swallowed in the U.K.’s first major entertainment company mega-merger – but with only a few weeks left in the year, the network has confirmed Gone will return for Season 2, with Myles reprising her lead role. In Season 2, the new case will involve a doctor with hidden secrets, some of which may involve murder. Once again, the series pulls in a major A-list guest star to play opposite Myles, with Keeley Hawes joining the cast.

Here is the logline for Season 2:

Ruth Manning is a pre-eminent, devoted pediatric surgeon at Bristol’s Makeway Hospital who comes into the crosshairs of DS Annie Cassidy when it becomes clear that, for the greater good of her patients, she may be hiding the dark truth about a series of historical crimes.
Eve Myles and Keeley Hawes will star in 'Gone' Season 2 (ITV/IonaWolff)

Myles (Torchwood) returns as DS Annie Cassidy and will co-star alongside Hawes (Miss Austen), who plays Dr. Ruth Manning. Thus far, Myles and Hawes are the only ones confirmed to return for Season 2.

However, we fully expect at least a few more of the Season 1 ensemble to return, if not the entire roster. That includes Jennifer Macbeth (Grace) as DC Becky Hammond, Jodie McNee (The Marlow Murder Club) as DC Nira Barker, Oscar Batterham (A Spy Among Friends) as DC Duncan Carmoody, Peter McDonald (This Town) as DI Craig Stanhope, Arthur Hughes (Criminal Record) as DI Ivan Pemberley, Amy Marston (Operation Mincemeat) as boss DSU Daniella Laing, and Dorian Simpson (Bridgerton) as Sgt Andy Much.

Series creator George Kay (Hijack) returns to pen all episodes of Season 2, which will also be drawn from To Hunt A Killer by former DSU Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, both of whom served as consultants on the fictionalized series. Kay executive produces alongside Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford, plus Polly Hill for ITV.

Gone Season 2 will start filming in 2027 and probably debut on ITV and BritBox in 2028.
