'Grace' Renewed for Season 7 After Major Cliffhanger
'Grace' bags a Season 7 renewal almost immediately after Season 6 concluded in the U.K. Unfortunately, it'll be a while before either crosses the pond to BritBox.
In "under the radar" hits on BritBox, there's probably no show less noticed by American media than Grace, the mystery series based on Peter James's sprawling series of novels. Part of its failure to break through the entertainment landscape was due to timing – commissioned in 2020 and filmed between lockdowns, the series debuted in the U.K. in 2021.
BritBox first started porting it over in 2022, just as Peak TV crested in the U.S., during the streaming service's "first foray into originals" era. Unfortunately, since Grace was not a BritBox Original, it received little marketing at the time, and, as the service was still dropping everything as a binge, seasons piled up without audiences noticing. The series, which streamed Season 5 in the U.S. in February 2026, was even given a weekly release, but the combination of inertia and the 11-month delay crossing the pond has left viewers simply unaware of the show's existence.
Despite the show's inability to break through on this side of the pond, the ITV series has been a solid hit in the U.K., and Season 6 was no exception. The finale of the new season only just aired on ITV in mid-April, and within a week, the network confirmed that Season 7 is in the works.
Grace's renewal was also less assured than it might have been, as Season 6 found itself at the end of the line when it came to source material. The original 2025 renewal announcement stated that Season 6 would cover three of the final novels, Left You Dead, Picture You Dead, and One of Us Is Dead, but that turned out not to be the case. Instead, for the first time, two of the show's stories were "inspired by" the characters, allowing the series to save "Picture You Dead" for Season 7. The announcement notably contains only that one title from the published books. The other title announced is "When You Are Dead," with the final two episode titles still pending. Season 7 is also the first time the show has been officially billed as "based on characters from the best-selling Roy Grace novels" instead of "adapted from."

Here's the general synopsis for where Season 7 will pick up, via ITV:
The popular, Brighton-based drama will return to answer the desperate questions left hanging after series six’s unforgettable finale, which culminated in the dramatic, edge-of-your-seat kidnap at the wedding of Roy Grace and Cleo Morey. Viewers were left desperately wanting to know what happens next, and the new series promises some answers and explosive new cases.

John Simm (Doctor Who) once again reprises his role as the titular Detective Superintendent Roy Grace. He will be joined by co-stars Richie Campbell (Top Boy) as his partner in crime solving, DI Glenn Branson, and Zoë Tapper (Mr. Selfridge) as Grace's wife, Cleo Morey. The main supporting ensemble also returns with Laura Elphinstone (Line of Duty) as DS Bella Moy and Brad Morrison (Outlander) as DC Nick Nicholl. The guest cast is expected to be announced when filming commences later in 2026.
The four episodes of Season 7 will be written by Jess Williams (Call the Midwife), Caroline Carver (The Bay), Ed Whitmore (Silent Witness), and Guy Burt (Alex Rider). The series is executive produced by Phil Hunter for Tall Story Pictures and Andrew O'Connor and Paul Sandler for Vaudeville Productions. Simm, James, and Kiaran Murray-Smith also executive produce.
Grace Season 6 will arrive on BritBox in the U.S. in early 2027; Season 7 will also debut in the U.K. in 2027, but likely won't cross the pond until 2028. Grace Seasons 1 through 5 are streaming on BritBox.
