‘Kin’ Will Officially Return For a Third Season
Irish broadcaster RTE says the third season will hit screens in 2027.
Surprise! The news of Irish crime drama Kin’s death has been greatly exaggerated. The series will officially return for a third season, which is set to premiere in 2027. But thanks to a tangle of distribution issues, it’s unclear when or if U.S. audiences might be able to see it, or its Season 2 predecessor, for that matter.
The renewal news will likely come as a surprise to many American viewers, as Peter McKenna’s gangster drama has had something of a rough go of it here in the States. The series’ first season, which saw the close-knit Kinsella family clash with a brutal drug kingpin, aired on AMC+ when it first launched in 2021 and performed respectably enough to snag a Season 2 renewal.
That eight-episode second outing was filmed the following year and aired on Ireland’s RTE back in March of 2023. Nearly a year later, it was finally broadcast in the U.K. on BBC One. But despite rumblings of delayed release dates, Season 2 never actually made it to America on any of AMC’s streamers, and the network has basically never mentioned it again. It seems safe to assume that most thought that Kin was just a one-season wonder, like several of the network’s other projects that disappeared after a single outing.
Now, the question becomes: Who will bring U.S. audiences the show’s second season while we wait for its third?
Here’s the Season 3 description.
In the third season, as the Kinsellas consolidate power, buried betrayals and festering rivalries turn inward, and the greatest threat to the family empire becomes the family itself.
Charlie Cox (Daredevil: Born Again) is returning as Michael, along with Clare Dunne (The Wheel of Time) as Amanda, Emmett J Scanlan (A Woman of Substance) as Jimmy, Maria Doyle Kennedy (Recipes for Love and Murder) as Birdy, and Sam Keeley (The Dry) as Viking. Yasmin Seky (The Puzzle Lady), Jack Meade (Sherlock & Daughter), Mark McKenna Jr (Fair City), and Öykü Karayel (Platonic) are also back, while new faces Diyar Bozkurt (Legends) and Alex Deegan (Flora & Son) join the cast as Aslan Batuk and Shelley Dunne, respectively.
McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly are series co-creators, with McKenna serving as showrunner. David McLoughlin and Samantha Thomas are the producers.
Production on Kin Season 3 is currently underway. Neither Season 1 nor Season 2 is currently available in the U.S. Someone please fix that.
