‘Legends’ Extends Its Saga on Netflix to Season 2
Netflix orders more 'Legends' from Neil Forsyth with a Season 2 commission.
Netflix announced a slew of renewals at the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival, including The Gentlemen Season 3, House of Guinness Season 2, and more episodes of Being Gordon Ramsay. (For the record, if I had the opportunity to be Gordon Ramsay, I would not.) Along with them, the streaming service also announced it was handing a Season 2 order to Neil Forsyth’s crime drama Legends, which debuted only a few months earlier, in May 2026.
Another “So Outlandish It Must Be True-Crime Caper” in the same vein as Forsyth’s previous two-season hit, The Gold, Legends tells the story of a group of average British Customs employees who, with only scant training, were sent undercover to infiltrate some of the U.K.’s most dangerous criminal drug gangs in the early 1990s. Also, much like The Gold, the first season was written as a closed-ended story, even though the program’s ramifications were felt for years afterward. While the show did only average with American audiences, it was a huge hit in the U.K., and Forsyth will continue to mine the history of this program for further adventures.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to tell a new story in the fascinating and unique world that Legends offers,” said Forsyth in a statement, “and to show just how dangerous, thrilling, and important their work became in the late 1990s.”
Here’s the logline for the show’s second season:
Legends explores the identities (or “legends”) built by a team of ordinary Customs employees as they dove deep into the criminal underworld. At the end of Season 1, they had cracked an international case and returned to their ordinary lives — but not for long. Season 2 sees the unlikely team drawn back into the world of undercover maneuvering, with the outside world none the wiser.
A changing Britain faces a new drugs threat on a scale never seen before. The team of undercover Custom Officers will come together once more to take on new challenges, and new enemies, in a thrilling, worldwide operation.
Currently, the Netflix announcement only mentions Steve Coogan (Brian & Maggie), Tom Burke (War & Peace), and Hayley Squires (The Miniaturist) as returning for the show’s second season. It remains to be seen whether Jasmine Blackborow (Marie Antoinette) and Aml Ameen (I May Destroy You), who were part of the core ensemble in Season 1, will also return. We expect any new additions to be announced in due course.
Forsyth will return to pen another six episodes of Legends, and the show will likely carry over at least one of the two directors from Season 1, Brady Hood (Prime Target) and Julian Holmes (Noughts & Crosses), with Charlie Leech producing. Forsyth and Ben Farrell continue to executive produce for Tannadice, and Richard Bradley does the same for Lion Television.
Legends Season 2 is expected to start filming sometime in 2027. All episodes of Season 1 are available on Netflix.
