It’s official: We can all book another stay in Widow’s Bay. Ahead of its first season finale, Apple TV has announced that the buzzy horror comedy will be back for another season.

This news probably won’t surprise anyone who’s been paying attention: The quirky series premiered to rave reviews from critics and has been steadily building buzz week to week among viewers. (A vanishingly rare thing in our current media landscape: A genuine word-of-mouth hit!)

The genre-bending series stars Matthew Rhys (Towards Zero) as Tom Loftis, the perennially exasperated mayor of a quaint New England town who just wants to turn the charming coastal village into a tourist destination with some help from his put-upon staff of office compatriots. But Widow’s Bay is hiding plenty of secrets: Its dark history involves everything from witch burnings to (possible) cannibalism, and its present-day streets are home to a seemingly unending string of strange happenings. From creepy local legends that feel all too real to possible murderers stalking its streets, nothing is quite what it seems in this little weirdo town. But that’s part of what makes the show so much fun.

A delightful mix of genres and tropes that feels unlike almost anything else on TV at the moment, Widow’s Bay is the kind of show that defies easy description, but which is absolutely worth your time. (Especially now that we know we’re getting more of the story!)

“Season two is about how everything is great on the island, and there’s nothing to worry about,” series creator Katie Dippold said in a statement.

Alongside Rhys, Widow’s Bay also stars Kate O’Flynn (My Lady Jane), Stephen Root (The Terror: Devil in Silver), K Callan (Knives Out), Jeff Hiller (Ghosts), Kingston Rumi Southwick (Presumed Innocent), Kevin Carroll (Snowfall), and Dale Dickey (The Lowdown).

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV, said. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

Dippold serves as showrunner and executive producer. Hiro Murai (Station Eleven) directed five episodes in the series’ first season, with Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung helming the remaining three. Murai and Rhys are also executive producers, alongside Carver Karaszewski and Claudia Shin.

Season 1 of Widow’s Bay is now streaming on Apple TV. Season 2 is not expected to arrive until at least 2027 or 2028.
