'The Couple Next Door' Renewed for Season 2 Ahead of U.S. Debut

The Couple Next Door hasn't moved into its American address quite yet, but in the U.K., more neighbors are on the way. Channel 4, which produces the Eagle Eye Drama series, has announced it has become its biggest streaming launch to date, with over one million views in the first seven days. The network isn't going to argue with success either and has renewed the series for a second season. However, fans of Season 1's leads Sam Heughan (Outlander),  Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Vienna Blood), and Alfred Enoch (The Critic) will want to hold their celebrations. The decision to renew comes with a caveat that future installments will be an anthology series featuring a new foursome whose exploits are connected via living near Alan, the nosy neighbor played by Hugh Dennis (Fleabag).

The married couple who will find themselves entangled in the infamous cul-de-sac feature Sam Palladio (Catherine the Great) and Annabel Scholey (The Sixth Commandment) as Jacob and Charlotte Roberts. Unlike Season 1, their temptations will not be another married couple, but two singles who enter their lives, Aggy K Adams (The Witcher) as Mia, Jacob's co-worker who rents the house next to them and befriends Alan, and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Elementary) as Leo, who happens to be Charlotte's one-who-got-away.

Like Season 1, this is expected to be a super dark and sexy series, taking the claustrophobic nature of bedroom communities to its logical end. Season 1 was based on the Dutch series New Neighbours (The Swingers), which streams on Walter Presents U.K. (Somehow, PBS Passport doesn't have it, hmmm.) Season 2 will pull from the Scandi noir drama Fatal Injections (Dopamin), currently streaming on MHz Choice.
